i would make the OPC a 2.8 twin turbo cranking 420 hp. that would be the ultimate contender for the m3 sedan and rs4.

Exactly! Look at the designs of Megane-Astra-Kia Ceed-I30-Impreza and you'll find them quit same. It means that creative component is lost in car industry and only they left is to guess what clientele might to look for. It goes to the basics of that crisis: car makers have nothing to say or give.
