Sometimes the unexpected happens. Like catching a Chevrolet Aveo at the Nurburging for instance. Mind you a high-performance version of the tiny hatch would be perfectly suited to the track but this spied model is a normal one. Although previous spy pictures did not convincingly show the car as an Aveo, this is the real deal.

It is said to be due for launch in 2010 as a 2011 model. Gamma 2, the platform on which it is to be based, will be shared with the next-generation Opel Corsa and the upcoming confirmed Beat.

There is also a body of thought which says this Aveo is the same as a car called the Viva which is a premium subcompact rivalling the likes of the Honda City. The Viva is scheduled for release in South America this year.

General Motors will most likely be left with Chevrolet as its global mass-market brand. The Aveo will play a central role in attracting new customers to the GM fold. Therefore a lot of development work has gone into making sure it meets these expectations. One of the main ways to do that was to create a high-quality interior. To that end Chevrolet used the Cruze (aka Lacetti in Korea) and Orlando as design inspirations for the Aveo's interior.

We should see a production version unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt International Motor Show.

The Ring for one is a very rough track, very rough, very. Testing here allows manufacturers to test cars in one of the rougher road conditions which will help make suspension more compliant while maintaining good control.

it's really becomming a trend to test cars on the ring that don't have to do anything with handeling. Chevy do you really think that anyone gets it in his mind to take his/her shopping car with maby 80/90 hp on a track, I don't think so

Anyone can take their car out to the ring. People with such ordinary car just go there just to have fun. It doesn't matter about the power, it's about having the freedom to push the pedal to the metal without fearing speedlimits.

As for the Aveo, I have nothing much to expect. Wait, is it in front of that R8?

After getting a bad rap for having highway cruiser tuned cars they want to rid the image I suppose. And what better way to rid your image then to say it handles better then anything in it's class?

Why The Hell Is This On The Ring? Someone Please Give Me A Good Reason?

So that GM gets the best suspension testing data which will help them give the new Aveo more comfortable suspension ride as well as more control at the same time.

To make sure it's more Mini than Aveo.

GM must be so poor they can't even afford a private test track?

They own their own test track. But it doesn't get quite the publicity of the ring.

This was the best way for chev to guarantee spy photos...

they need to sell cars and have positive rumours circulating - why else test a buzz box on the ring??

Why not? If you've been to the Ring you would see much less spectacular cars milling about just having fun.

If I were an auto manufacturer I would send all my cars out to the Ring just to get noticed and be able to use the phrase "with handling/ suspension tested on the Ring...blah blah blah..." on my ads.

do you guys at WCF know anything about the upcoming viva's strategy for south america? it is supposed to be sloted between the corsa and the astra... problem is both cars are completely obsolete (around 10 to 12 years old each) and losing share... besides, the price gap between the relatively expensive corsa and the cheap astra is tiny, which leads me to think that the viva will probably kill both cars... if they dont get some heavy makeover pretty soon.

so... any hint, clue or even a rumor on what gm is planning?

I kind of like the idea of putting this car on the ring. I mean they are competing with the Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, Nissan Versa and Hyundai Accent. Making this car more athletic will give them an edge. They put the Cobalt on the ring and magazines reviews always have it top 3 or 5 in performance.

YA! GO AVEO! Once again GM making awesome cars that everyone will buy, and pull them out of their recession. I've already reserved 3 to display in my garage. ...NOT!
