A day after it emerged that Michael Schumacher was seriously injured in a pre-season fall, the seven time world champion announced that his return to two-wheeled race action is close.
The 40-year-old German fell at a Spanish test circuit and was briefly hospitalised in February, and Switzerland's Blick newspaper on Tuesday claimed Schumacher was severely concussed and broke ribs.
But Schumacher's manager Willi Weber told the German newspaper Bild: "Michael is going to test shortly. He plans to start his (German Superbike) season on May 29 at the Nurburgring."
The boss of his Superbike team, Jens Holzhauer, dismissed fears that Schumacher may be returning to action before he is ready.
"He drove for 20 years in formula one," the Holzhauer Racing chief said. "If he says he is fit, he is fit."
