The Lexus LF-A has been one long development project since it was shown as a concept car at the 2005 Detroit Motor Show. Even as Toyota Motor Corporation reported its first year-on-year loss of 436.9 billion yen (US$4.47 billion) last week, new spy pictures of a production LF-A have been snapped. It seems the car is very much on track for production then. This is not the one hidden under the race car body which was seen at the Nürburgring.

These spy photos reveal for the first time new rear lights as well as different body attributes to the production prototype first seen two years ago. Some exterior differences include the absence of a rear diffuser and in its place is a kind of mesh net. A new front bumper also appears.

The LF-A will feature a number of technical innovations to ensure its environmental friendliness as well as high performance credentials. Those in the know have constantly said the car will be powered by a V10 engine worth between 500hp (368kW) and 600hp (441kW).

Lexus will race a 4.8 liter V10 LF-A at the 24-hour Nürburgring which takes place from May 21.

A convertible/roadster LF-A concept was unveiled in January 2008 but there is currently no clarity on whether it will be produced or not. What is speculated a lot is that the production coupe will be shown at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show in preparation for its 2011 market launch.

I really like the 3 exhaust layout. It's so original!

And with those lines, surely it can't disaoppiont. This and the IS-F should get Lexus out of their boring reputation!

If 007 drives this car, maybe Mi-6 can turn the triple exhaust to rear-firing Gatling gun. Connery's Bond did drive a '67 Toyota 2000GT in "You Only Live Twice."

You just say that cause you're biased to what Society tells you is a good car. Like your Range Rover, it doesn't matter that once your warranty is over you're gonna be in the dealership 2wice a week for your precious Rover.

Range Rover ? Worst reliability.....EVER!

Nice car so far Lexus. Let's just hope that the triple exhaust outlets are going to be fake ( like the IS-F ). Please please please Lexus put it on the road NOW! Not in another two years like before. The world has been waiting just over 8 years for this car Lexus, so give yourselves a challenge and put it into production this year; NO LATER OK?

Please please please put it in production, because;

1) it carries a nice blend between classic European car design with clean-esque Japan lines, it has presence!

2) And do not be afraid of skeptics with regards to the amount of development time injected into the car - be patient and look at the Veyron

3) if it runs smoother and feels more dynamic to drive than the GTR, it will be a success.

This is impressive in every sense of the word ... stylish, powerful, classy, with innovations and genuine presence it raises the bar in the (almost) affordable exotic car category.

So Toyota has made a loss… if they made a loss for the next 60 years, they’ll probably THEN go bust. So how come it takes a company like Toyota, with so much money, so long to bring a car like this to production? …instead concentrating on extremely dull cars? Perhaps that’s where the money is…

Spot On. Toyota has been dull in terms of line-up for at least 10 years now after the Supras death over here. However even so, they're my favorite manufacturer because they just have the business sewn up.

Looks like F430 which means that this car is very impressive and good looking despite the minor defferences from Ferrari.

I like it. However, why not make a new Supra and price it to compete with the GT-R and make a rear wheel drive Celica(like it originally was) to compete with the 370Z. Why 170k? For a Lexus? Come on, if you want to outdo the europeans, cool, make a 90K supercar that can steal buyers from other companies and make it a Toyota not Lexus. I'm in agreement with DolceRides on this one.

Your comment makes no sense. "170K for a lexus ". Lexus has proved their just as good as Benz, BMW and others at making Luxury cars for well over 10 years. What you'ld pay 170K for a SL65 base just because its german ?

I love Mercedes Benz, but i don't love them because they have a higher price tag or because society maintains the illusion that German cars are still really that much better than others.

Okay, Xanavi23 your right on the 170k thing I can humbly admit that. The article doesn't mention a price. I'm not saying they are not as good as germans. I like Lexus. But bottom line, price it for what it is worth. I saw a GT-R for 90k so if the LF-A's performance is similar, price it somewhere around that amount. If not, what else is the buyer getting and is it worth it.
