Boasts sporty styling changes

Mercedes has announced plans to introduce a special Grand Edition trim package for the wildly unsuccessful R-Class.

Available this fall, the new package features exclusive 20-inch AMG wheels, thermally insulated blue-tint windows, bi-xenon headlamps with dynamic active light and cornering light functions, LED daytime driving lights, and darkened rear taillights. On the inside, Grand Edition R-Classes come with anthracite wood trim, an AMG sports steering wheel with paddle shifters, stainless steel pedals, and plenty of Grand Edition badging.

While we doubt many buyers will shell out €3,300 for a gloried design package, it's nice to see Mercedes trying to remind us the R-Class still exists.

The Grand Edition usually is the last edition before they kill a model or redesign it totally.

I'm sorry, but you can never ever call this bug-eyed POS 'sporty.' Nowhere near being classed as that. Anyone that buys this car has to be a totally blind nub to like the design.

im confused... i thought i saw a test mule R class a few months back covered in cladding like they were doing a major facelift? Is this it? Or is this just a run out model untill the facelift?

I like it...not overly attractive but can look good from some angles as long as it has big wheels and the optional packages...I'd definitley rather one of these over an SUV ie ML/GL if I had a family to haul and never went off road.
