Lotus unveiled the Exige 270E Tri-Fuel at the 2008 Geneva International Motor Show. Then when the car appeared at the 2009 Auto Shanghai it caused a bit of a stir with a company called Youngman Auto. Said company is a joint venture partner for Lotus in China.
YA has reportedly presented Lotus HQ with a proposal to bring the 1.8-litre supercharged 270E Tri-Fuel to China. The car is still a concept at this stage but should the Chinese demand be anything close to YA's enthusiasm for the concept then Lotus would seriously look at producing it. If not then at least it can take comfort from indications that China may be ready to take more Lotus products.
Touted as the fastest Exige ever, the 270bhp (201kW), 260Nm concept covers the 0 - 60mph dash in just 3.88 seconds with a top speed of 158mph (254km/h). It achieves these figures when powered by methanol or bioethanol, two of the three fuels the car is capable of running on. The third one is petrol.
