Jaguar is not taking any chances at all with regards to the new radical design direction it has embarked on for the XJ luxury sedan. Even after announcing it will unveil the XJ on July 9, the company still kept plenty of camouflage on this prototype which was spied running at the Nürburgring. By using that particular track Jaguar seems to be applying its marketing slogan of "beautiful, fast cars" to all the models, including the big XJ.
An official teaser image with an accompanying video clip was recently revealed. It showed the car directly from above and very little else could be made out. Jaguar announced at the 2009 Auto Shanghai that the XJ will feature the brand's new supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine with 510bhp (380kW) and 625Nm of maximum torque. Another confirmed engine is the 3.0-litre twin turbo diesel V6 which produces 271bhp (202kW) and 600Nm of torque.
To enhance performance even further Jaguar is using aerospace-derived technology and an aluminium body architecture for the car's construction. Therefore weight is expected to be at a minimum.
More spy pictures could surface before the big event. When they do we hope to see much less camouflage.
The order book for the XJ will be opened after the July reveal. Customer deliveries will start in some markets during the first quarter of 2010.

I believe the car is overhyped and completely overrated... with the help of the British medias. The car is overrated with many borrowed design cues, poor driving dynamics and a gimmicky cockpits.
I think Jaguar has lost its plot these days by ditching its heritage and good design. Instead.. they build a German clone car. But what they didn't realized is that Munich, Stuttgard and Ingolstadt make a really good German car.
The current XJ is a brilliant car. Thanks largely to its lightweight aluminum body construction and good balance. I just hope it doesn’t fall into the XF booby-trap. Please no baby Aston Rapide. The Rolls-Royce 200EX, Maserati Quattroporte and Fisker Karma is undeniably one of the most beautiful four door saloon.
I won't comment further until the new XJ is out. What do you guys think?
