Let's be serious and honest, in my opinion all the teams are cheating maybe, more or less, but Mclaren was caught more often(intentionally or not). Can some say that all the other teams play 100% fair?

This is mercedes issuing a threat to the FIA - 'come down hard on us and we'll run away...' i think there is just cause to be harsh with them - but no precedent to base it on considering what teams have got away with in the past. mclaren's punishment will set a new benchmark to warn teams to be transparent. and as for their meeting on monday: mercedes were reviewing their future in F1 anyway as their split with mclaren means re-writing any technical partnership in F1.

You're absolutely right. Mercedes is a powerful part of F1, and they know it. They're now finally realizing they're not invincible.

I do think the threat is serious though. I mean, with the results McLaren have had this year, and the possible punishment could make it pretty hard for hamilton to get back on track. It would be a shame to lose their participation, so I hope FiA won't do it to BIG.

That's what I thought, FIA knows it would be risky to have too few teams, and too few real car manufacturers' names. Currently we only have Toyota, BMW, Ferrari, and both Mercedes / Renault are now considering leaving...

I hate to be brutally honest, but with the junk they pulled, they shouldn`t have the option of whether or not they "want" to go, they should just be banned from it. Mercedes has a risky affair with motor racing. What with killing those 80 people or whatever in the 1955 Le Mans, and never completing the T80: http://www.oto6.free.fr/6roues/t80/mercedes_t80.jpg And now this... They really should never do motorsports again. They're not even that great in the German Touring Car Championship. And now we find out that they've been lying and cheating? Wow... so low Mercedes. Get out while you still have a namesake that is trusted.

think a little before talking bull - mercedes killing people in the 1955 Le Mans? how old are you??? 13??? if it was ferrari, the result would have been the same... as well as if it was aston martin, lagonda, or any other team. and i do believe that there is some dirty game about always catching mercedes with there pants down, while ferrari are always clean. this was even confirmed by F1 officials.

compared to other sports, the F1 cheating is greatly ignored. compare to pro tour cycling - entire teams were pulled or banned because of unknown whereabouts of some riders in the training months, Basso, Ulrich and more banned because of doubts not facts.. The business is just to big that you can get away with an apology. Motorsport and especially F1 needs to get serious about their rules and regulations, including Mr. S&M, to have a future in this world other than death race scenarios. Drivers need to take more responsibility, c'mon Hamilton if you make that much money you should be able to stand for your actions or ask your communication mananger before an interview. they are in the focus and need to do a little work for it and if they lie they need to get the punishment, exclude him like a doper, 2 years ban! (Its not I don't like him) and let Mercedes go on with a driver that knows his boundaries a little better...

I dont like Hamilton and nor do I support MB, but it seems a lot of u have very strong opinions, that are not based on anything valid. First of all, Hamilton did nothing wrong. The driver is a puppet, he was told to do something and so he did it...he did not complain to the stewards, it was the team again. So, personally, Hamilton should not receive any penalty, it should be the team. jdmgtr: again, I dont support MB, but saying that MB should leave because they are not topping the podiums right now? So you would like, in F1, to have only 3 drivers, Barichello, Button and Vettle? And everyone else should levae? :S As has been said above, MB is using its power and mainly putting media and the public into the decision of the FIA. Of course, now the FIA will not decide "normally", since the consequences of their decision could throw a bad shadow at F1, and it could have vital consequences for the whole development of F1 in the future...

Here's a crazy thought: as the new McLaren road cars are meant to be using their own engines, maybe McLaren and MB have concluded that such a relationhip in F1 no longer makes sense and they're now hoping that a threat to leave can be used to minimizing the damage to both brands...? Might we see Brawns turning silver instead?

As i see it, they have been the only unlucky team to get caught with their pants down.... Ferrari always seems to get away with murder over the years, plus there also is a diabolical plot to get after Lewis, one way or the other.... Let me remind you all, No one is a Saint in F1, period! I hope Mercedes Benz does not leave F1, otherwise its gonna get boring as there won't be anyone else worth whipping!

Bristol411S3 Mercedes have the biggest shareholding in McLaren, so I doubt that Mercedes will not support Mclaren? why would they pull out of their own company? They may very well pull out of F1 though

Pretend we are talking about the successor to the McLaren SLR and ask yourself those questions again. For that car they have chosen to go in-house with AMG rather than involve McLaren, and the P11 is rumoured to have a non-MB engine in it. I agree it seems weird, but weird things are happening.
