Great! except for the fact that people who pay €30,800 might not care about prius-like fuel economy.

Curious to know how many are waiting for bmw and audi to bring their four cylinder turbo-diesels over to the US? Am I the only one willing to drive a 3er, 5er, A4 or A6 with a high output 2.0 liter turbo-d? 523d is my number!!!

BMW has already brought the TDI version to US. I happened to see at NY AutoShow. Not sure if it's the model you are talking about but just FYI =)

The Audi A4e really should come to the US, that way people can maintain their self-respect and fuel efficiency at the same time. Let's face it, the Prius is the most horrendous looking, among the most underperforming cars available on the American market.

This is EXACTLY the kind of vehicle many guys in my age bracket (35-45) would buy. Good-looking (well, not in friggin' PINK...), high-quality, efficient, fantastic interior, with a manual transmission. Many Jetta TDI owners have well over 200,000 miles on their vehicles because the cars WORK, but owners won't trade "up" to petrol-engined or automatic-transmissioned vehicles. C'MON, Audi, M-B, and BMW, let's see some quality manually-shifted diesels for the USA! We constantly hear the Europenas trash US drivers as gas-wasting, SUV-driving pigs... but it's only because M-B, BMW, and Audi don't have the balls to market their efficient quality stuff here. Get it done, already! (rant is now off).

the prius and honda hybrids are just marketing hype.prius has several times carbon footprint than non hybrid vehicles, it uses more fuel than european diesel cars, is a not a nice drive (unless you're a senior citizen only going to local bowls club !). Reality is toyota/honda have jumped onto the greenie eco band wagon to get prominence in world markets. Dont be under any illusion that the ABM (AUDI,BMW,M/BENZ)have not been very busy beavering away with alternate propulsion/power/fuel technology long before asian car industry. Fossil fuels will expire within 50 years anyway. What about the tons of fossil fuels used in current wars, jet planes, cargo vessels, cargo trucks, railroads etc etc.???? Private motorists who are a ready source of govt.taxes get hammered all the time.
