Our friends over at BMWBlog.com have managed to capture the first "real world" pictures of the upcoming 2010 BMW X5 M.
Unlike the press photos, which featured an unflattering blue exterior, the new pictures show a beautiful looking X5 M decked out in what appears to be Titanium Silver Metallic. While many of us still have our doubts about the need for an M branded crossover/SUV, there's no denying that the X5 M has curb appeal because of its aggressive front and rear bumpers as well as some attractive looking 20-inch alloy wheels.
Power comes from BMW's new 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 555 horsepower (408kW) and 500 lb-ft (678Nm) of torque. The engine is connected to a six-speed M Sports Automatic transmission which features Sport and M Manual modes as well as a traditional full automatic mode for unparalleled flexibility. Thanks to the unique combination of an ingenious transmission and a monster of an engine, the all-wheel drive X5 M can dash from 0-60 mph in just 4.5 seconds before hitting a limited top speed of 155 mph.
The X5 M's performance goodies don't just reside under the hood as the new model also boasts a M sports suspension with Adaptive Drive, Electronic Damping Control, and Active Roll Stabilization as well as a high-performance M braking system which comes with massive 15.6-inch front and 15.2-inch rear brake rotors.

Anyhow, I always wondered what an X5 would look like without the roof rails - and now that I do I wish they would have left them on. It just looks strange without them. Other than that its all hotness.
its an M (thing) and they have their own reasons,,,
isaacu
GTS Cayenne, ML63, even the regular X5 4.8 over this thing...
looks like it's got the rims off an old 3-series..
People are so ignorant when they say this car (sucks), this car was made for an "elite" segment of the population which you are not in...
People who have this car won't go for grocery, they have people to do that for them...
and when it comes to gas, if you can afford this car then you can afford the gas
plus where I am (Saudi Arabia),, we can buy all kinds of cars and the gas costs US$0.11 per liter, thats like 40 cents per gallon
problem solved :)
can't wait to see it myself..
-Luxury
-Performance
-Bold Style
-Uniqueness
The X5 M has all of those, plus more...
A car in this segment has SUV's in many tiers...
Tier 1 (lowest) would include Jeep, Toyota, Tata, and similar trucks
Tier 2 (OK) would include Land Rover, X5 3.0, ML350, Cayenne V6, Lexus RX
Tier 3 (good) would have Range Rover Vouge, Cayenne S, Cayenne GTS, X5 4.8, Lexus LX
Those three types can be seen in any city that has a good standard of living, now, those cars can only be seen on rich parts of town and in luxurious towns
Tier 4 ("Elite"): ML63 AMG, Cayenne Turbo S, X5 M, X6 M, G55 AMG
Tier 5 (Super): Specially tuned, high-performance SUVs such as the GV12 Brabus, Gemballa Tornado, Cayenne TechArt, ML Brabus
This is just what I think, correct me if I'm wrong...

I come from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, I know the people who drive those cars, and since I'm one of them, trust me, I know what I'm talking about...

I have now an X5 4.8i (2007 - new look) ,, black on black with black rims,,,
and about the rims,, I think better looking rims will come out when it hits the dealers,, or at least a better "option",, BMW makes some of the best mags in the industry so I believe that the final version will look even better
They probably didn't want to develop a new longer bonnet lid just for the X5/X6 M (since the X5 M is using X6' bonnet, headlights, and front fenders), or/and for cooling reasons.
and the price is fixed, not variable like the rest of the world,,,
there are only two octane types over here,,,
we don't have 84, 87, or 89,,
91 octane (Super, at SAR 0.45, $US 0.12/liter) -45.42 U.S. cents per US gallon-
95 octane (Super, at SAR 0.60, $US 0.16/liter) -60.56 U.S. cents per US gallon-
