We weren't expecting to hear about this for another couple of days, but we just got wind of a report saying that Bugatti will release four more special edition Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Centenaire cars as a tribute to four former Grand Prix drivers. The models will be on display at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, being held this week near Italy's beautiful Lake Como.

Each of the Veyron 16.4 Centenaire vehicles gets polished aluminum fenders and doors, unique paint pigments, and new wheel design. The cars use red brake calipers, and get a mirror shine at the grille. These cars truly live up to the Bugatti mantra of "Art, Forme, et Technique."

The cars are being built to celebrate the namesake's 100 year anniversary. Bugatti showed off the one-time-only Veyron 16.4 Bleu Centenaire at the Geneva Motor Show last month. The four new models will honor drivers Sir Malcolm Campbell, who won back-to-back Grand Prix de Boulogne races in the Bugatti T39A, Hermann zu Leiningen, who helped win the Czechoslovakian Grand Prix in 1930 with a Bugatti T35B, Jean-Pierre Wimille, who won more than a dozen races for Bugatti including the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1939, and Achille Varzi. Varzi started with Bugatti, before switching to Alfa Romeo. It is with the latter that he won the majority of his 33 top finishes.

These four cars, and hopefully their inspirational classic counterparts, will be on display from April 24th to the 26th, at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in Cernobbio, Italy.

How many "special edition" Veyrons are there?

This must be some sort of record.

I agree, this is starting to get ridiculous.

Loving the classical relasionship theme Bugatti are doing here. Red/Blue + Chrome makes it seem nostalgic.

As if the regular Veyron wasn't special enough...

Looks like they're not quite selling as much as they would like too. The Veyron has more special editions than the Golf, and that alone says a lot!

Mustang comes to mind

Let me get this right. This is a total of four production cars being added to the limited edition run, with each car being unique, right? Four total addition limited edition cars. It's hardly the Golf Match.

Still one of the most incredible cars on the roads today. Not our, roads, though, since I live in Canada. Lousy Veyronless Canada.

Veryron is technically brilliant but aesthetically appalling.

Nissan did alot of special editions for the Sunny! Special editions are a very cheap way of clearing old stock, however it seems to have to do this with the Veyron is not the motive. What they are doing is creating the most incredible used market for Veyrons that should come in to fruition in about 10 years. The vast majority of these `special` Veyrons will be mothballed and then reappear on the market at twice the original new price.

If you have a few million pounds to spare, it seems a pretty good investment.

Have to say, not overly keen on the colour scheme.
