WCF Community is Launched

Welcome to the beta launch of WorldCarFans Social, one of the first auto enthusiasts content sites with fully integrated social networking features.

Back in December 2008 the positive response we received after adding an *edit* function to WCF comments system prompted a closer look into improving the overall WCF experience. A survey was launched asking about a free social networking community integrated into WCF. The response was overwhelmingly approved and two months later we are proud to present the beta launch.

WCF Social is available to all existing registered members as well as new sign-ups. In the top left corner of all WCF pages, you will see a login box.  For existing members, there is no need to re-register. Your existing login will work. Once logged in, go to your virtual "Garage" to see your personal home page.  Please fill in your profile and add a personal avatar.

Other available features within your home page or virtual “garage” include:

  • comment alerts (via email)
  • comment log
  • WCF news feeds (coming soon - directly to your personal garage)
  • wall
  • friends list
  • favorites (news stories)
  • photo uploads (temporary limit is 20 photos)

Not only is WCF Social a significant enhancement of our comments system for streamlined participation, but it's a place where members can interact one-on-one. Members are encouraged to complete their profiles, make friends and comment on each other's garage “walls.” With a personal home page to manage all of your community activities, there is no need to keep returning to the article pages. On a story by story basis, you can subscribe and manage comment alerts that are delivered directly to your garage home page and via email.

In the near future additional features such as WCF Social for groups and businesses, free marketplace, video upload and comments for photos will be added. Beyond this, additional features will continually be added to make WCF Social more engaging and fun.

WCF is entering uncharted territories where content/social networking hybrid models are few and far between, and as always, we depend on your feedback to make sure we are on the right path. We must emphasize that WCF Social is in the beta test stage, so please make your comments in this topic to report any bugs, errors or difficulties you might encounter as well as suggestions to improve functionality. Add this topic to your Garage favorites by clicking the *star/plus* icon just above this text article or you can subscribe to receive comment alerts to your Garage. And if all else fails, you can email us at feedback[at]worldcarfans.com.

Thanks for your support. We hope you enjoy WCF Social!

A forum for the users would be a nice feature for the future.

Like the new site.

Hi Anthony, we had operated WCF discussion forums between 2001 and 2005 and the growth was less than spectacular. We wanted to bring back a community atmosphere but not through a discussion forum format which is getting a little old for our purposes. Instead we felt a social networking format is more conducive to a community atmosphere where the flow of discussion is directly related to WCF content. There are thousands of automotive discussion forums out there for almost every niche. We wanted to do something fresh and a little different.

Alternatively, you can always visit our sister site CarSpyShots.net which we own and host. It is based on Vbulletin software and has a very specialized and talented member base.

Adding friends is fully functional. Be aware that they have to accept your friend request first.

Also, a friend search function will be added to the Garage pages in the next couple of days.

This is surely my favorite car news site! Keep up the good work guys! This could be the best link for all car enthusiasts around the globe to share their opinions about the automobile world and their experiences behind the wheel.

The color of the edges of the logos on the top don't match the background, so they don't have smooth edges which I think would look better. Maybe they can just be be cut into curves, instead of the rectangle or square shapes that they are now with different colors than the logo color. Hopefully you guys get what I am saying and its helpful..

Thanks Guys, this is a great idea, makes WCF more interactive! Finally, we Auto Enthusiasts have our own Space, somewhere we can get down to the serious business of Motoring and Motorsport! Can't wait to work on my Wall and Virtual Garage, Maybe WCF might consider a Gaming network, where we can all logon and race online, whether it's Formula 1, Moto GP, A1 GP, Superbike, WRC or DTM Simulation, it really doesn't matter, as long as it's motoring it's all good!

Very nice upgrade, you just need to use a JAVA/Flash system to view image galleries so its faster and the page doesn't need to be reloaded everytime

Hi Muhaidib, a java/flash photo album viewer is on the way, but there will be restrictions. We're about 1 month away from launching it. More details to follow in the coming weeks.

Thanks to all for the kind comments and feedback! I just want to emphasize, that this is still the beta stage, and it is hardly complete. We realize there are many limitations to the functionality overall, but "it's a start". As mentioned in the article above, we plan to continually develop WCF Social and offer a lot more features very soon.
