Volkswagen has announced UK pricing for the upcoming 2010 Golf GTD will start at £21,850 for the three-door, six-speed manual model.

The six-speed manual Golf GTD five-door starts at £22,435 which translates into a modest £585 price increase over the three-door. For an additional £1,305 potential owners can equip their GTD with Volkswagen's highly regarded six-speed DSG automatic transmission.

Under the hood resides a 2.0-liter TDI engine which produces 170 PS and 258 lb-ft of torque, it enables the GTD to run from 0-62 mph in 8.1 seconds and hit a top speed of 138 mph. Models equipped with the six-speed manual boast a combined fuel economy rating of 53.3 mpg and CO2 emissions of 139 g/km, DSG models fair slightly worse as their combined fuel economy is rated at 50.4 mpg and CO2 emissions come in at 147 g/km.

Exterior styling enhancements for the GTD include a GTI front bumper, honeycomb grille inserts, a body-color rear bumper, and unique 17-inch ‘Seattle Black' alloy wheels. The cabin features performance orientated accents such as a flat-bottomed steering wheel, a leather gearshift, and a "tartan" interior.

Set to arrive at UK dealerships on June 22, the Golf GTD is currently available to order at Volkswagen dealers nationwide.

PRICING ANNOUNCED FOR NEW HOT DIESEL: THE VOLKSWAGEN GOLF GTD

Volkswagen has revealed pricing for its new performance diesel, the Golf GTD. The new model is available to order at Volkswagen Retailers now ahead of the cars arriving in the UK on 22 June.

Prices will start at £21,850 RRP ‘on the road' for the three-door, six-speed manual model. There is a £585 premium for the five-door model and a £1,305 for the six-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

Powering the new GTD is a refined 2.0-litre (1,968 cc) common rail TDI engine, producing 170 PS and a substantial 258 lbs ft of torque channelled via a six-speed manual or automatic DSG gearbox. This translates to effortless performance with the ability to accelerate to 62 mph in 8.1 seconds and a top speed of 138 mph. Combined with CO2 emissions of just 139 g/km and average fuel consumption of 53.3 mpg and a range in excess of 640 miles on a single tank of fuel, the GTD is a frugal yet exciting hot hatch.

The Golf GTD's appearance differs significantly from the standard Golf. A new front bumper from the GTI sits below a honeycomb grille element framed by chrome horizontal fins and a prominent ‘GTD' badge. At the rear, full body-coloured bumpers make the GTD appear lower and wider than it really is, while the Golf's standard wheels are replaced with unique 17-inch ‘Seattle Black' alloys.

Inside, the main contact points are unique to the Golf GTD - a flat-bottomed steering wheel, a leather gearshift and a standard tartan interior. The tartan finish is unique to the GTD and is subtly different from that found in the GTI, being grey, white and black, rather than red, white and black.

As with the entire Golf range, the new GTD will feature class-leading levels of safety with ABS, ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) and seven airbags, including for the first time a knee airbag, all standard. The Golf was recently awarded a maximum five-star rating by the EuroNCAP crash testing agency.

39,352.43 CAD or 31,740.13 USD for the three door not including the automatic package. most likely north america will get the car but in a slightly modified version due to the fact that us europeans love to mod the car before selling it to you guys. but im thinking most likely they will get the car in Q4 (oct - dec) or Q1 (jan - march).

Mod it before? In the past it got modded afterwards in the States... The whole issue of suspension on the GTI in the US was a screw-up: curb-height regulations meant it was jacked up on stilts. Got fixed a few years later though. It was designed and produced and sold - as intended - in the UK, Europe, Oz and here in South Africa without any 'mods'.

$20,000 CAD are what the '09's start at in Canada. Mind you, not in a diesel but the 5 block gas. Holy smokes car are expensive in Europe?!?!

This golf is particularly expensive.

The Golf GTi only costs about 500 GBP more... ..and for that you get those GTi alloy wheels!

GTD - not for me, sorry! I'd go GTi.

Although this is decent looking, I'm all in for the Full blown GTI version!

Wait, did you just say £22k for a Souped up diesel version? Oh God.... If they made a Diesel R20 (highly unlikely) That would cost more than an Audi R8!

Just me or does a Golf VI 'GTD' just sound plain wierd. Maybe I'm just so used to 'GTI' that my brain fills in the last letter and then I'm surprised it's not! This car really isn't a performer: ok nice ecomony and emissions but all this money for a 8.1 sec time? Even my MK5 GTI is getting slow @ 7.2 secs with new models rolling out from other marques. Have to see how this one does.

what a real beauty...nice clean lines and suttle design even though it's a GTD...wouldn't mind one myself :)
