Jaguar has released this teaser video for the next-generation XJ and announced some details on its upcoming release.

You don't get to see much of the car in the video, as it is show only from a top view in an Hitchcock-esque overhead shot, but that is the point of a teaser, though, isn't it?

At the Auto Shanghai 2009, Mike O'Driscoll, managing director of Jaguar Cars, announced that the XJ will be officially unveiled on July 9th and he also provided some tidbits of info on the new model.

The XJ will be the first car constructed using Jaguar's aerospace-derived technology and will feature an aluminum body architecture. O'Driscoll announced the model will come in both a standard and long-wheelbase version too. The XJ will also offer every Gen III engine available in the Jaguar range, including the new V6 diesel and 510 bhp supercharged V8 engines, which Jaguar promises are more efficient than previous iterations.

Already known was that the new XJ would be fitted with that 510 bhp 5.0 liter supercharged V8 with 625 Nm of churning and cranking torque, the same engine recently introduced in the Land Rover Range Rover. The V6 diesel will also be a winner in diesel-heavy markets. The 3.0 liter turbo-diesel engine features 271 bhp and 600 Nm of torque, almost as much as the supercharged V8, and a solid 40 mpg (UK) mileage rating (7 liters per 100 km).

Jaguar will begin taking orders for the XJ after its unveiling in July for delivery in early 2010. The XJ goes on sale in dealer showrooms at the end of 2009.

OK, so this is a plausible rendition:

The rear lights like different on the official shot though.

I can't wait to see this car. That sector needs some passion and excitement. It's too big a leap (no pun intended) to the Maserati Quattroporte.

seems to get narrower from the front to the back :-P

From what I can see it doesnt look very attractive - it starts all wide but kidna gets thin towards the back like joelynn said. For some reason when I first saw the rear i automatically thought Nissan Maxmia...

I heard some rumors about the revival of XJ12, XJ with V12 engine and with twin scroll biturbo gets 600hp and plenty of torque! that would bring Jag back in the game with top three Germans!

Where would they get the engine from? Jaguar can't afford to develop their own from scratch. I guess there is a chance they could add modules to the V8. Buy in the V12 from Aston Martin?

More interesting is the strange wrap around rear window and mostly concealed 'C' pillar. Looks as if the car will have a futuristic look with a 'fake' glass dome.

there are two options! one is getting N/A V12 from Aston Martin, and second which is more likely to develope their own F/I V12 in a way as you said adding modules to V8! we will see

hope the TATA will finance it!

Even from the top this Jag still looks great, not many cars look cool from the top. Another brilliant addition to the Jag range...

It may look like a stretched version of current XF with some modification, a four-door coupe style perhaps.

Anyway, a jaguar is always beautiful and stylish.

I am also thinking this will look like a Stretched XF. But with less aerodynamic and coupe shapes. Should be more formal as most big Jags are.

Well, I think Jag may hit the spot with this one, looking at the current competition, there is the new 7 series, which is ok IMO, but still looks like the evolution of the previous model (so boring), there is the new facelifted S-Class, which is kinda hot, but it's still just a facelift, and there is an upcoming new A8, which, unless the Audi will surprise us with something really new, will look like all the other Audis.

Im thinking the last of the classic Jags are dead, which is really sad. The XF dsnt even look like a Jag, its pretty, but dsnt look like a Jaguar, just a pretty car, and I fear this one will be the same. I think the new XJ will be sexy, very georgus and stylish, just not very Jaguar like, which is a shame.

wjaprep,

I know exactly what you're saying. I feel the same as well.

The XF is a beautiful car indeed...but it doesn't have the upright Jaguar feel. A bit too futuristic whereas the Jaguars that I knew had that certain classic charm and warmth to them.

It's kind of like a Saville Row tailor all of a sudden decided not to produce suits made from traditional wool and hand stitching, but lightweight synthetic fabrics and seamless fusing methods!

But I guess Jaguar decided that it needed to move on and find new customers as the demographics of their current customer base is probably near death (slight exaggeration)...time to bring in the new blood which appreciate more tech saavy and modern products!
