Nissan has announced plans to launch the new Skyline Crossover in Japan this summer.

Essentially a Nissan badged Infiniti EX, the new crossover features Skyline inspired styling with a wagon-like twist. While the exterior is all Skyline, the interior is completely different as it adopts a more luxurious cabin with a unique design and higher quality materials.

Although Nissan failed to provide technical details on the new Skyline Crossover, the press release states that power will be provided by a "VQ37VHR engine with VVEL technology." This engine is already available in Europe for the Infinti EX37 making 310hp while the U.S. EX35 comes equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 297 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque.

US sales of the Infiniti EX have proved dismal disappointing as American consumers have balked at the crossover's tiny rear seat which only offers 28.5 inches of rear legroom compared to the Infiniti G37 sedan's (Skyline's) 34.7 inches of rear legroom.

the smaller picture of the car makes it look like the new impreza with a higher ride height

I actually liked this car when it was first introduced in the US, but when I compared it to the G35/37 sedan.....it bugged me that the rear legroom is smaller that the sedan. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this car is based on the sedan platform right? So how the hell can they make it smaller? This is screwed up in Infiniti's part. If the legroom is the same or a bit larger, it would be a major success here....IMHO

I actually purchased my EX35 this past August. Yeah, the rear seat room is tight in back. However you can fold the rear seats down all the way, something that is not even an option on the G37, but should have been an option. I like to go bike riding and the fact that I could not fit my bike in the trunk pretty much took the G37 off my list (heck, I can put my mountain bike in my former car, an 03 Accord coupe). I like the EX35 because of SUV utility with G37 performance. I like the FX 35/50 and would have gotten it if not for the high price tag and low fuel economy. So there are trade offs between EX35 and G37. If you plan to have people in the back seat, but still want SUV utility and can afford the $50K+ price tag (which in today's ecomomy, not too many can), go for the FX 35.
