you're the guy with crazy in your name, what's wrong with you ? besides , have you ever heard the Zonda V12 ?

LOL! good one yah little 13 year old.
to answer your question. i'm CRAZY about cars clearly. as with everyone else on this site i hope. and yes i've heard a zonda V12, which belongs on exotics. this is an american car, especially a well known one. if you know any better or anything about any of the cobras ever built, they have always come with V8's. V8's are lighter, well balanced, and also a much better choice for this size of a car. :D:D. i think a V12 would make this car too heavy wouldn't you say? aka increase in power to overcome the weight which basically means TOO MUCH WHEEL spin and unusable power. :P

Putting a V12 in a cobra is just plain stupid. And have you ever heard of the Ferrari F430? That does not sound like a tractor. And that has a V8. Also, the R8--no tractor sound. And the Koeniggsegg CCX--V8, no tractor. And the M3--no tractor. And the Ascari KZ-1, no tractor there. You get the picture, I presume.

@ dbehmoaras , i was speaking about BIG V8s not small, high revving ones.
@ carcrazy , whatever , you didn't get it. besides , AC Cars Group Ltd. is British, not American.

That aside, it doesn't matter. The Cobra was born for a V8. Not a V12. Putting a V12 in a Cobra is like putting a V12 in an F430. It may sound good on paper (not that I think it does), but it will never happen and it never should because for a car to be good an engine has to belong in that car.
And by the way, the Saleen S7 has a 7.0L V8 and certainly does not sound like a tractor. And that's a big V8. REALLY BIG V8.

Cobras have always been V8 but Ford sources. For AC Cars themselves to be sticking a GM mill in it saddens me.

Whats the difference with the GM source and the Ford source? Sound, Reliability, Power?
I wonder how much this will cost?

I love the retro design, but I loved the Ford Cobra Concept more for being a contemporary interpretation of the original.
I would have also expected a more efficient power/displacement engine - in comparison a BMW M3 engine produces 420Bhp from a 4.0L engine.
The car might weight 1025Kg but the gas station attached to the engine has to weight another 20000Kg...
So if you're ditching Ford, might as well ditch them for the Germans...

Ya but the M3 V8 can't do 25+mpg on the highway like the chevy block can ;)
April 13, 2009 11:47 am
the BMW engine can do more than 25+mpg if you put it in a lighter car.
April 13, 2009 12:53 pm
weight has only to do with a tiny bit of increased rolling resistance for highway mpg. And 500lbs difference won't cut fuel economy by 6mpg.
April 13, 2009 2:49 pm
Wiesmann MF4, BMW M3 engine, gearbox, transmission, suspensions, etc., does 27+mpg(US).
April 13, 2009 5:44 pm
@joe-limon: don't speak too fast on that one. It depends on the car, and 500lbs is a lot. Less wait means less power necessary to accelerate the car means less work for the engine means less fuel consumption. And again, 500lbs is a lot.

I love the M3 engine, however it's far too refined for such a car. This car needs a rumbling V8 that shakes/vibrates through the whole bodywork, whereof its inertia transfers to the car while accelerating standing still.
April 14, 2009 1:18 pm
but we were talking about highway fuel economy, not city fuel economy. You don't accelerate on the highway...
April 14, 2009 7:58 pm
@joe_limon: yeah I guess you're right. But I think the less weight would still make it less work for the engine to maintain speed because the engine is still under pressure unless the pedal is completely unpressed (except for when the engine is off, obviously).
