Chinese automaker Roewe has announced plans to introduce their new N1 concept at the Shanghai Auto Show later this week. As the sketches show, the N1 features "four-door coupe" styling as well as a sleek exterior that blends organic design with soft sweeping curves.

Although virtually no information exists on the upcoming concept, there is speculation that the N1 is essentially a Roewe version of the MG Rover MG6 Concept (both brands are owned by the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation) which will also debut at the show. If the speculation turns out to be correct, the N1 will most likely be based off the Roewe 550 and feature a turbocharged four-cylinder 1.8-liter petrol engine.

More information should be released later this week, so stay tuned for more details.

You meant the MG6 Concept -- MG Rover died several years ago and SAIC/NAC has no rights to the Rover name, hence them inventing Roewe. I think the Rover name is owned by Ford, although there is a chane it was sold to Tata with JLR.

Nah...Rover Name is still owned by BMW I guess...They retained the brand name after it was sold to Ford. ..but its quite confusing..here you can find some info!

That's not my recollection. I remember BMW has on it for a while and then Ford bought it to stop anyone else getting their hands on it and confusing the Land Rover brand. That's why I guessed it may be with Tata now.

Hmm, If BMW retained, it means that Rover never been to Ford and then at Tata, and now they should have a problem selling it to Rowe, because I doubt that BMW plans to revive Rover.Like they won't revive Triumph. Still it's good to see MG back on the role, even it's chinese.

From the sketches the car looks like a copy-paste of Passat CC. Nothing new for the Chinese automakers. But let's wait and see the real car...

Well there is a postive side... at least it's not one of them 'copy & paste with a little editing' chinese designs.

Tata does not have anything to do with Rover. @Ghent, most of the Indian made cars sold abroad are not designed in India, Tata gets it done in Italy, so are Chinese. Secondly you must be relating Nano to all the cars done in India, for your information even Nano was done in Italy. Tata will let Land Rovers and Jaguars do their own things, it so happens that they just own them. The sketches you see over here must have been done in some not so well known design studio in Turin, even though it resembles many cars, its not a bad job after all.

As far as I remember, NAC has the right to use the MG brand, while SAIC has the rights to use Rover's existing designs and future concept ideas, together with any resources that the Rover can offer, except the name, that's why they call it Roewe.
