New VW Golf Awarded World Car of the Year

They should rename this award to "world's most bland car of the year", where has the Golf magic gone?

the Golf has always been the people's car of the year, every year.

I have to admit I am usually a car snob. But I love hatchbacks. Some of them are really fun to drive and they have the utility of an SUV, but get great gas mileage. One of my favorite cars I ever owned was a 2003 Honda Civic Si. Only sold in hatchback form in the US. This Golf makes me want a small hatch again. Especially with the 2.0L turbo 4.

A worthy winner ... of course there are some "better" new models on the market, but for the price it's hard to find anything to match the Golf.

The judges must have serve their biological purpose of giving birth and now they are waiting to die. They are pathetic to choose a car as bland as the Golf

I think the XF should be car of the year. The new Golf looks too boring and dull, the previous one looks so much better and is way more charming.

Well, Golf win the World Car of the Year, not the World Car Design of the Year, which has as winner the Fiat 500. Even Golf Mk5 was the best sold car in Europe, a market producing better cars than the American one. Wonder why Golf Mk6 won this award? It is not a great design car, but it is a great car as far as driveability, comfort, technology and reliability are concerned. And all these for a fair price. Golf was and will be a reference for compact hatch class. Golf remains a people's car, but with engines over 200 hp and full specification becomes almost a premium car.

Good choice again. Golf VI deserves it.

Jaguar XF good looking??? No....Jaguar couldn't stylr themselves out of a wet paper bag it's awful. Much the same for the hideous new Fiesta. Over styled with a cheap and nasty interior. Thankgod for VW et al.

The Golf Mk6 deserves it! It's simply a very very nice car :-)

I can't believe that a 2009 World Car of the Year award was given to a restyled version of a model launched in 2003. The Fiesta is lighter, better finished and way more attractive than its predecessor, and it doens't need 1.8 or 2.0 engines. Do I need to say anything else?

i love Vdub i have one ,,, but i dont see how Vw will be able to beat GM ,,,, cuz they have so many cars that arent sold world wide unlike GM they have such a huge rang to chose from in every country,,, anyway most likly Vw will surpass Gm if not this year they will soon
