not competitive? more torque and power than comparable BMW diesel, with just 3kw less than Audi's 3.0 diesel, but again more torque (55nm).
most impressive however, the V8 diesel with 230kw and 730nm. 730 nm is a HUGE figure and is beyond anything offered by any other automaker at this point in time, of comparable size and construction.

What are you talking about, hell666? Ever looked in the spec sheet of the 730d F01? This is the most powerful single-turbo 3.0 L Diesel engine today...

2 words "simply beautiful" now I think its time I break open my piggy bank that I had since child hood and see how much I have saved to date.lol..!!!!!!if only.
On the other hand lets see what its competitors have in store in terms of looks and new technologies.BMW and Audi need to step their game up on this one.

The car is certainly aging. It's starting to remind me of the MB S-Clas of the mid 90's, which is beautiful but had it's time in the sun.
The facelift helps but I am seeing a Hyundai quality in the design.

..least attractive design of all time ? geezz have you been living under a solid rock all this years ? hyundai quality ? i have enough with this " hyundai " thing..give me one good reason which you can compare a hyundai with an s - class ....that is so stupid

I believe you can, Benz is really falling behind on the luxury game. http://www.isuppli.com/NewsDetail.aspx?ID=20073

OMG, not the row of LEDs again :(
Come on MB, you could have done a lot better, like making those headlights look a lot less like Focus or previous generation Civic headlights...

it looks really beautiful... i love what they have done to the front bumper..i still think it's the best in its class..and split view ? wow..i really want to see it

Hey, the Speed Limit Assist system is copy from F01 7 series and the exhausts are the same as BMW, and 760 is already tested with these 2piecis exhausts as the s600 have.

i liked the w221 whn it first came out but thought it was 2 round and tht the front bumper was terrible, along with wahtever was up with the tail lights and now Mercedes has fixed that. this car looks sooooooo much better.

I'm not a Merc fan but this doesnt look that bad. Well, maybe rear bumper with this exhaust looks a bit square, and I hate LED rear lights, but I love the interior and it's quality, it is really good.

They have take a beautiful car and made it better (save for the side mirrors). The interior craftsmanship is a work of art.

I'm not so impressed. I'm wondering whether this update is like the W140 update (decontented), or the W220 update (quality upgrade). Mercedes always brings new tech in an S-class update, the question now is "what about the rest of the car". Design-wise, I still prefer the pre-update W221.

In response to the article, "Best Shots Yet of the Mercedes S-Class Facelift" - 20th August 2008, I had this to say:
"Mercedes-Benz have done what they do best with their S-Class. Absolute minimal changes to what is a "Class act". Daimler Benz, you have the helm. Warp 9!......"
There is simply nothing to add.

mmmm sooo much better, i liked the w221 whn it first came out but the front bumper, tail lights and its overall squareness... ew, but i like this one so much better, it looks like a proper S class. No, wheres the coupe?

Nice update. I like the design, though i still prefer the 7 series.
But what about those daytime running lights? 2 in the bumper, 2 on the lower edge of the headlights, 2 at the outer edge - isn't that a bit of a LED overkill!?

I'm a BMW guy, however, must admit, this was and still is a very attractive car. Sutle changes, great result.

this is simply a amazing facelift of the current s-class, i take my hat off. Now i just have to sell my e-class and win some more money in lottery..thats all.
I actually loved the leds...it makes the car look more bold! and the interior...well, 10/10. This is a classic continue of the great s-class, perhaps the best serial produced car ever in motor history.
