great interior, nice range rover style front, back 3rd a bit odd but generally nice.... should wipe the floor with that ugly new Grand Cherokee... this planets only big enough for 1 historic SUV maker and it aint Jeep.

LR4? It is, and has been LR3 in the USA for some time now. I know it is still Discovery in most other parts of the world. Is LR4 a typo, or is Land Rover renaming the LR3 LR4 now? Land Rover USA does not use the name Discovery anymore here, since most Discovery models were SO bad, that they didn't want consumers to know that the LR3, was a new model Discovery. I'd be surprised in LR4 is the name though. Hmmm....

That's because someone went and assumed LR3 implied "3rd generation of LR". When actually, the name LR3 implied the third model lineup for Land Rover in the USA. Victims of their own stupidity really. They should have just called it, I dunno, Discovery, like the rest of the world does.
"The LR3 name was chosen for North American markets due to negative quality associations with the Discovery name and (according to Land Rover) a preference in the American market for alpha-numeric model designations (the Freelander 2 would also be re-designated for the North American market as the LR2)."
Still, are the changes significant enough for it to even be called Discovery 4? I'd still call it a facelifted Discovery 3.

Seems they are sticking the LED christmas tree headlights on every single car now.

well if this was a stand alone 4x4 i would think it was really impressive, especially the interior which is a huge step forward. However why have LR made the disco or lr3 for the americans look exactly the same as the range rover? it is called a land rover for a reason as it is a different brand that you pay a lot less for than say the range rover. I wouldnt be impressed to shell out the extra money for a range rover only for people to see the new lr4 and think it was the same car as mine. i thought that was the point of having them as separate brands?

The new engines are good but I odn't like the restyle. It looks just like a RRS from the front now, with an odd looking box stuck on the back. And the rear lights don't work for me either.
This looks disjointed, like three cars bolted together. It works nothing near as well as the original (LR3).

Peterjames7, I just took delivery of a new full size RR HSE (The Range Rover) about 2 months ago. The LR3/Disco and the Rover Sport are the same platform, and similar. I do not think The Range Rover looks like either. I have always thought though, the Rover Sport model should not carry the 'Range Rover' badging. The Range Rover is top of the line, and should stay 'Range Rover' alone. The sport should just be called Rover Sport or LR3 Sport or something like that, or LRS... I am bloody pissed that The Range Rover (2010) coming out in a few months has SO, SO many improvements over the 2007-2009 Range Rover. The HVAC controls, steering wheel, taillamps, start/stop (no key needed) and the instruments!!! The speedometer/tach/fuel is SO awesome. Finally, the 21st century. No more hard to see green, with small numbering. This is what I am most jealous of!! :(

Ya know Peterjames7, after looking at more pictures of the LR4/Disovery4 in motion...it does look like our Proper Range Rover. I just saw what you meant. I too, do not know why Land Rover would do this. The Range Rover has always been in it's own league/category, so I am baffled/annoyed why Land Rover would blur the category between Discovery and The Range Rover. Poor choice for Range Rover owners!!

I like it. It's much more upmarket now. Doesn't look like a farmer's SUV anymore.

I like how all the Land Rovers have the same front style, and yes very up market. I love the inside to, I think the name is fail, they shulda kept the Discovery name. so wht will the nxt freelander b called? LR2.5 or LR3... no wait...

GAHH!!! what have they done! Ok the center console is abit better, but i hate everything else. Why do Tata need to ruin LR??

A nice update for Discovery/LR3 fans, not so much for Range Rover Sport & Range Rover owners due to interior and exterior similarities.
A more pressing issue is that Tata really need to sort out the weight of the LR4 and 2010 Range Rover Sport.
"0 - 100km/h in 7.6 seconds...5.0-litre direct injection V8 375bhp (280kW". Sounds like one heavy SUV in comparison to MB M-Class and BMW X5/X6.

Interesting decision to offer a bigger and more powerfull V8 in times when other manufacturers are downsizing.... It would be a wise decision to offer the 3.0 V6 Diesel in the USA too.

Though I like the improved interior, and it makes it look much more upscale, I worry though that the NEW Grand Cherokee still goes it one better. I looked at the video on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iseiospb60k and it looks amazing! And for likely $10,000 less. Might as well spend the extra coin to get the Range Rover name.
