McLaren summoned by FIA, sacks Dave Ryan
Team McLaren at Australian grand prix 2009

On the day it sacked sporting director Dave Ryan, McLaren was formerly summoned to a hearing of the FIA's World Motor Sport Council.

As the 'lie-gate' scandal nears its summit, F1's governing body said the meeting will take place in Paris on 29 April.

McLaren must answer the charge that lies were not only told at the Australian stewards hearing, but subsequently last week in Malaysia.

The FIA also claims McLaren "made no attempt to rectify the situation" despite knowing that the lies caused Jarno Trulli to be "unfairly penalised" and stripped of his Melbourne podium.

It appears that world champion Lewis Hamilton is not facing the same accusations, with the FIA saying McLaren "procured its driver" to repeat the untruths.

In reaction, McLaren vowed to "cooperate fully" with the FIA process.

A statement issued by the Mercedes-powered team on Tuesday also said: "This afternoon McLaren and its former sporting director, Dave Ryan, have formally parted company."

Lost a lot of respect for Hamilton and McLaren in this incident, I wonder what the FIA will have in store for them?

Hamilton "did what he was told to"?! What a great way to prevent any personal liability! He's a grown man and the reigning World Champion - how could he possibly be expected to know right and wrong and the rules of the FIA.... What a clown! As per Hamilton VS Everyone; the guy did it to himself. Sure there's obviously competition between drivers, but there's also a commraderie (Schumacher and Hakkinen, Senna and Prost, etc.) None of the other drivers lgo out on a limb to defend this guy. That's gotta tell you something...

Hamilton is a joke ,he has no character at all. "Hamilton did what he was told to do. " - that says it all , he's a muppet, a disgrace to all drivers. what the hell happened to British fair play ? i hope this is the last year Mercedes partners with these bastards.

Hamilton is lucky to be in this false sport, just consider other sportsman - leading riders at the tour the france were suspended which ended their career because they would lie about their training location before the event and the anti doping agency put a lot pressure on the team which laid them off. Just the hint of unfairness is enough to end carrers and in F1, which I like as a gearhead its all about cheating and laughable penalties. What is Mercedes thinking, the highest paid employee is a cheater on the world stage - thousands @ Mercedes lost their jobs already and this guy thinks an appology is enough, nope I don't think so, - C U Mr. Hamilton- come clean F1!

I think people need to look at the bigger picture, Hamilton has been in contact with Ecclestone/Mosley during this and they agree that he was merely following team orders. How many times at work have people rushed to a meeting in front of a client and heard a colleague say something, we have all wanted to put them right but you cannot due to making the team/company look bad. Outside you then correct them but it's not worth your job, thisi is what happened and they got caught out. I think McClaren will be docked a stupid amount of points in the constructors this season. As a big McClaren fan they need to ensure this never happens again and ensure their team leaders don't do something so stupid again.

i agree that mclaren is the root of this evil. however as a role model to potentially millions out there, how does it work when he justifies lying "because i was told to". it comes back to that old "if somebody told you to jump off a bridge" story that every parent around the world tries so hard to teach their kids

I have been a fan odf mclaren since Bruce started the team and am utterly disgusted at there amaturish anticks of late. Hamilton get in that car and race boy if you still have the guts, i very much dought it. Lets get the designers of the mess they call a race car and sort it asap. With sp many people in the team they should have had it sorted. Final word to Hamilton, your not worth the money you get running at the back of the field ok your just a sham driver, get out or get on pole your a disgrace.
