i REALLY don't understand why they don't use the 6208cc AMG V8 in the new SLK... just like i never understood why they chose to use the N/A 5.4 litre AMG V8 this time around. what was wrong with the supercharged version? and can you IMAGINE how fast it would be? :D

Think in s business manner, and it should become clearer. The 5.4 litre supercharged version would then compete with the SL, which Mercedes wouldn't want happening. Thats why a superhcarged version never made it to the C class either. That much extra power would be corrupting, so to speak, because it would have a hard time getting it down onto the tarmac.

There are a couple of reasons for this, some more applicable at the time of the first launch of the R171 (slk55)in 2004
1) The 7g gearbox can't take the torque
2) They can't make slk55 faster sl55
3) To cope with that torque/power, it needs a LSD
4) The weight distribution is already front heavy
5) It will end up being a dragster rather than a sports convertible, the front axle is unlike the c63 and there is limited amount of grip to keep back from biting you.
Nonetheless, I still would like to see a supercharged version :)

lol nothing exciting here. That's why they're going to the Nurburgring to find out if there is anything that could fail. I remember watching a tv show about 6-series BMW, there was a problem with exhaust overheating during prototypes testing, same story with Audi - R8 V10 burned on nurbugring.
like BabyMilo said, seriously, that's why they use test mules and protypes.. Just to get every problem out of a car during testing.
