Half points for Button as rain lashes Sepang

A torrential monsoon stopped play during the Malaysian grand prix on Sunday, with winner Jenson Button only able to enjoy half-points.

With drivers needing boats with headlights rather than single seaters when the red flags were flown on lap 32, they then waited on the grid in fading light until the clock reached the maximum 2-hour time limit.

"They're dreaming if they think we can restart this one," Red Bull driver and GPDA director Mark Webber, flinching as a bolt of forked lightening struck nearby, said during the wait.

Although short, the race was action packed, with Nico Rosberg comfortably leading early, but it was clear Button's Brawn was the fastest car.

Germany's Nick Heidfeld, and Timo Glock - whose Toyota team can congratulate itself for shrewd strategy decisions as the conditions morphed from dry to wet - completed the podium.

As in Australia, Ferrari again scored no points, Kimi Raikkonen abandoning the wait for a re-start with a can of coke and chocolate ice-cream after the team feared a KERS problem amid the deluge.

Button will be taking just 5 points back to his home in Monaco, but his second win of the season gives him a clear 5-point lead in the championship over teammate Rubens Barrichello.

Referring to the safety car finish a week ago in Australia, the Briton grinned: "I still haven't seen the chequered flag without a safety car in front of it!"

Common Toyota & Williams, you got too inprove your cars so it match Brawn GP, and if Ferrari & Mclaren can catch up later in the season(i'm not sure about that...)we can have a great middle and end of the season. 2009 season cars not pretty, but the races are thrilling...2weeks of waiting now :(

Dare I say, the FIA's rule changes have turned out to be a success? We've seen almost a complete reversal of the pecking order as Mclaren and Ferrari have swapped places with red bull, ex-Honda (Brawn) and toyota. I have been thoroughly entertained with the action so far this year. (Flame-proof suit on)

I agree. It's shaping up to be a great season if we can ensure no more final standings are disputed with the race stewards.

I fully agree, the start to the season has been quite exciting. Even though this weekends race ended a bit short the laps that were raced were very entertaining.

Williams, Toyota and BrawnGP stretched the diffuser rules, get away with it and consistently place high up while the big boys suffer. I don't see BrawnGP's success as a big deal at all...

It strange to hear eveyone talking about the rule changes being a big success. It is true Toyota, BrawnGP and Williams are way ahead of the pack at the moment, but had this been Ferrari, McLaren and BMW, maybe everyone wouldn't be saying the same. Nothing has really changed, at the moment there are 2 or 3 teams vying for pole and race wins. With the rest of the pack fighting out the middle order. Saying this though, there is no doubt we are seeing far more overtaking this year and should the bigger teams manage to sort themselves out, it could be a cracking year.
