'Further action' against Hamilton possible - FIA

Further action against Hamilton possible - FIA
Lewis Hamilton - Australian grand prix 2009

A spokesman for F1's governing body late Thursday would not rule out "further action" against McLaren and Lewis Hamilton.

Following a reconvened stewards hearing at Sepang, the reigning world champion was excluded from the results of the Australian grand prix, having been found guilty of "deliberately misleading" the Melbourne inquiry.

"We could not rule out further action at this stage," the spokesman said in Malaysia.

It is Hamilton and McLaren's breach of article 151c of the International Sporting Code that could carry penalties ranging from reprimands to total exclusion from the championship.

Rumours at Sepang suggested the matter could be referred by the FIA to the World Motor Sport Council.

McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh, however, insists that neither the team nor McLaren "lied."

"I don't know what they meant by (deliberately misleading), you'd have to ask them," he said as he addressed swarms of media in the paddock.

"They believe that the omission of the information about the radio conversation between the team and Lewis was withheld and that is what they believe was misleading."

Triple world champion Niki Lauda told the German broadcaster RTL that he considers it "the biggest joke of all time" that the FIA took four days to come to a definitive ruling about the incident.

Couldn't agree more with Niki Lauda. If they now exlude McLaren from the championship, then I will definitely quit supporting F1, as it is becoming pathetic, teams accusing other teams of cheating, results being changed days after the races... WTF is going on?? I want racing, results being decided on the track not in an office by a 78 years old senile *******.

I am by no means a fan of McLaren or Hamilton, it must be said. However, I do think that even considering dropping him from the championship all together is insane. Lying by omission to the officials should be punished, and disqualifying him from Australia accomplished that. No need for further action really. Now, allow the posts to say that Ferrari has something to do with this to come pouring in!!!

just as this season was beginning to be interesting...why are they making such a fuss...why dont they just give Trulli the 3rd place and Hamilton 4th...why on earth go back and forth...this is just silly- im a Mclaren supporter, and it just seems theyre given all the sh**. frankly speaking- a few years ago where Schumacher won every other race and 5 championships in a row- was more interesting than this sh**y fiasco. for gods sake someone shoot the stewards- and EcclesCake and MossEisley... they are just too old for this- unbiased people like Mark Blundell, Martin Brundle, Coulthard, etc ex-drivers should be the board of people deciding these things...people who actually know what its like to drive 60-odd laps in a grand prix car... go to hell mosley n ecclestone and the stewards! u take all the enjoyment out of F1

Michael Schumacher smashed into Jacques Villenueve in an attempt to win the world title. He failed and there was a general outcry for him to be banned from the first few races of 1998. Instead he was thrown out of the 1997 results.

Honestly, if they let Truli pass and then report him, then they should be disqualified! But of course, they should not, and will not be dropped from the championship...any1 thinking that is not thinking straight. Ecklestone wants attention, with this, he and F1 is getting it. And we all know, that even bad advertisement is still advertisement... Totally agree with Lauda tho...given the $$$$$$$$ F1 has, I find it hard to believe that it took them 3 days to listen to radio conversations between Hamilton and Mclared...oh well, I guess parties are a part of working for the F1... F1 has released the radio com: http://dl.groovygecko.net/anon.groovy/clients/igentics/australia09/2009_Australia_Hamilton_driveraudio_final.mp3 Thoughts?

This is a joke, I have listened to the radio transmission and Hamilton's comments, it's going too far to say that they deliberately misled them. The fact they have complete access to the transmissions, you would be stupid to lie on those. They really have something against McClaren & Hamilton, I think it's getting to the point where he will walk from the sport soon!! Just imagine if every football/soccer game you watched was decided 4 days later. They need full time stewards not these jokers, SPA was a brilliant race ruined by Stewards. I just do not understand how they think this can be helping ths sport, I'm just waiting to see what happens if Brawn get their wins taken away from them for the Diffusers
