Sigma Motorworks has released the first pictures of their Ford Mustang based GTE electric-vehicle which is scheduled to launch next year.
Power comes from two 100 horsepower electric motors which are directly connected to the front and rear Ford-sourced differentials. This unique arrangement eliminates the need for a gearbox and provides the GTE with all-wheel drive, a rarity among electric-vehicles (e.g. Prototscar LAMPO).
According to Sigma's head of development, Steve Kase, the GTE has a top speed of about 145 mph and a range of up to 100 miles thanks to the car's advanced lithium-ion battery pack.
Although the GTE certainly faces many hurdles, including questionable exterior styling and an interior lifted from a late-90's Mustang, the company expects the model to go on sale in early 2010 with a sales target of 500 units.
