Acura has announced that a prototype of the upcoming ZDX crossover vehicle will be exhibited at the 2009 New York International Auto Show next month. The ZDX is quite muscular in appearance, has four doors and sits four passengers like a coupe. The rear door handles are hidden, which reinforces the idea of a coupe design.

"The ZDX prototype is unlike anything you have ever seen before from Acura," said Acura Sales vice president Jeff Conrad. "The prototype showcases a new level of luxury, style and refinement for Acura and speaks volumes towards our commitment to advancing the brand."

The ZDX has been spied a few times since 2008. It will be a rival to the BMW X6 Sport Activity Coupe. Acura expects the production version of the car to bring a new level of sophistication and prestige for the brand. Several technological, performance and safety advancements are to be part of the complete ZDX package.

Powertrain details are not so clear at the moment but a strong possibility is Acura's existing 3.7-litre V6 engine that makes 300hp (221kW) and 373Nm of torque. The high-riding vehicle will probably use the SH-AWD (Super Handling All-Wheel Drive) system from the Honda Motor Group. Sales begin this coming fall (autumn).

What the hell happend to the auto world, and don't blame the automakers, they just fallow the tastes of the consumers, I mean Acura use to do great cars, like the Integra, NSX and RSX and now they are making another SUV, SCUV or how the hell u want to call this thing, sure the Acura sharp lines will help it to look better then the X6 but it's still a turkey, so go back to your roots Acura.

That might actually look better than the X6, which is not a difficult task. It's like Vin Diesel or Britney Spears - heavy and not actually pretty, but hot for all the wrong reasons.

Actually, the current Acura design language fits that whole new SAC concept quite well, with sleek, edgy lines and all. Acura is really doing its homework to get to the so called Tier 1 status. Way to go!

Oh, on a side note: I hate how car names have suddenly disappeared from the auto world landscape. That's okay for the germans, but what about Acura, Infiniti, Lexus... can´t they just come up with classy, significant names? And all the heritage from Lincoln and Cadillac? Or the beautiful names in Alfa's history? So sad!

So far so good.lets wait and see. And I still dont get why everytime a new car comes out eveyone point fingers and says: "oh this is from BMW, this is from merc and blablabla.."jesus guys...tell me the last time you have seen a concept car that in any part it didnt ressemble a little bit of any production car.

That's a load of rubbish, how can this car honestly be better looking than an X6. This car for starters is shown in 'dark' light and from these pictures alot of it is hidden. The clearer picture (from a spy camera)on the other hand gives us an idea of what an odd looking car this thing will be. Look at the boot lid for starters, it reminds me of a Korean car and for one to suggest that this car is better looking for an X6 i suggest they jump on a plane and fly to a place where they have X6's. Since when did a Koren team better Man U? crap!!!!

Just like the X6 that sold all 20,000 copies even before it arrived at the showrooms, this will sell some 10,000-15,000 per year and that precisely is the volume range that Acura must be targeting. It will be a low volume, high margin car for the rich kids who need to have some exclusivity even in a otherwise normal car.
