2011 car shows off detail changes

Clear-weather shots of what is likely the 2011 Porsche 911/998 caught in testing have surfaced, offering some new sneak peeks into what's in store for the iconic sports car. The latest shots, snapped outside of Porsche's Scandinavian test track, clearly show a small roof spoiler above the back glass.

Close inspection of previous spy shots shows a visible panel at this location, so it's clear that we're seeing the retractable roof spoiler in its extended position. The unusual camouflage at the back of the car is probably in place to allow the conventional retractable spoiler to deploy without pushing the body masking material out of place.

With the view uncluttered by snow, these new shots also show more of the car's longer, lower and wider form. The re-contoured hood has been tweaked to meet new safety regulations, and the LED daytime running lights that are the current automotive fashion trend can be seen as well.

Rumor has the 2011 911/998 getting a boost in power from its familiar flat-six engine range, and featuring Porsche's new seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. A six-speed manual will also be offered.

One more time: This is the updated Turbo undergoing testing before it's introduction this year, not the 998.

it makes sense to build the updated 997 turbo before the 998, but are those side air intakes real ?

Well, you said that with authority but you are dead wrong. The 2010 Turbo will not have any significant body changes and as you can see from the rear shots and the mirrors, this car is quite different. This is most likely the mule for the 998--since those side intakes are also decals.

Porsche's are gorgeous! I think that the 09's are the best looking yet they just keep perfecting a great design. I'm not sick of it, don't think i ever could be.

Couldn't agree more.

It's nearly as the same look as the 997 test mule.

those side intakes are definitely not real... look at the reflection of the ground in the second pic, there's no way it would look like that unless the whole thing was a decal. and it's definitely not wide enough to be a turbo.

This IS the 998 Carrera, not the 997 Turbo. Just look how much wider and more angular the c pillars are, and the door mounted wings mirrors
