Typo: standard rims are not 17 inches wide, but 17 inches in diameter... On the subject of this car, I cannot help myself but to call VW cheap for using the same rims as the Mark IV GTI! That's lame!

they're not quite the same, and how many times has Merc, Audi et al reused the same rims for subsequent generations? you can still spec an Audi A3 with C5 RS6 wheels, for example

I don't mind reusing rims across models or generations, but one would think the top of the line Golf deserves special treatment. Yeah, AMGs use the same rims for a variety of models, but those are a different story, they are AMG rims, legendary in their own rights. Different things work for different kinds of cars. It's like huge wings: put on a Lambo, it's cool; put one on a Civic: it looks cheap! I don't have anything personal with these rims, I kinda' like them, it's just I think VW could have done better...

yeah whether the rims are you style or not, they are a signature of this car so it makes sence that they kept them.

never mind the same rims been used. This must have been the cheapest car too design as Dragos has neailed it. Its a mk5 gti with a facelift. In fact all the mk6 have received a facelift. Very boring from vw ,the only exciting car is the scirroco. 2 out 10 blandwagen

Nobody expected an entirely new car. VW always claimed that MkVI was just a step inbetween MkV and MkVII to bridge the gap and counteract the declining sale figures of MkV. So far I personally like the car, probably because it resembles its predecessor so much.

Most forget or don't know that the main reason was to cut down on the production time from a lengthy 40 hours. So there are now less parts requiring assembly. I also heard the body is to be more cheaply manufactured (not the interior, that's got as boost) but can't vouch for this. The new GTI has electronic LSD, more power, less emissions and better fuel consumption. So is hardly a minor facelift. (from a MK5 GTI owner who bought new just over a yr after lanuch and after 2.5 yr's has an old model!)

"yawn" to the "new design".It's no different to the previous generation. So am I expecting a "face-lift/new design" in 6 months to a year?

Love that cat, great look + little fuel consumption if you drive like granny. Well done VW!
