Here's a teaser for the upcoming E63 AMG sedan, which will be unveiled next month at the New York auto show.

That's an un-identified man, likely a Mercedes-Benz executive, getting cute with the camera and showing us the face of the car. Luckily, we have spy photographers that can get us a better look, and we've already seen several sets of shots of this E63 AMG sedan.

Mercedes has been rather patient-less recently with the launch of AMG models, with AMG variants coming on the heels of new launches without the marketing folks taking too much time in-between to build anticipation. Perhaps they have their reasons for the strategy. But it's, no doubt, good news for those waiting on an AMG E-Class like this one.

Details on the new E63 are still few. There's a 6.3 liter V8 under the hood, with 525 hp and 630 Nm of twisting power churning at the 7-speed automatic transmission, already seen in the SL 63 AMG. Those power ratings are evidence that AMG does, indeed, believe that the horsepower wars are over, as it declared a few months ago, since competitors like the RS6 (579 hp) feature more thunderous numbers.

But it may be just that, a horsepower number that AMG can match with weight reduction and better aerodynamics, which it has promised to do. We'll have to see the E63 take a few laps around the track to see how much progress AMG has made with the model, but the performance division has already shown it has the technology to make up for less power upratings.

Price tag is expected to be somewhere over 80,000 euros in Germany, likely closer to 90,000.

Its 6.2 liters!!! How can an automotive journalist write 6.3 on that engine?

are you 100% sure they didn't increase engine capacity?

It'll be a beast of a car- but Mercedes design just doesn't do it for me, neither interior or exterior

NO they did not. old AMG engine had 6.3 if I am right thats why it is called 63 still.

noworkday, it seems you're contradicting yourself. According to the sourced sites (including AMS), it's 6.3-liters. The previous AMG engine was 6.2-liters. So apparently displacement has increased 0.1 liters. We will find our for sure soon enough.

Wow, this looks way better than the standard models, and how come only this one's got those LED attached to the bumper, while other sort of hangs misplaced.

It's "teases" or "teaser". "Teased" would mean it is the recipient of the tease, not the giver.

If it the engine in the SL63 it is 6,208cc.

We went through the 6.3 designation when this motor came out in 2007. It is 6208cc's but they are calling it the 6.3 as an homage to the S-Class in the 1960's that an engineer from Mercedes fitted with a 6.3L V8. I guess that was the first ever "super-saloon" by Mercedes-Benz.

This is the same motor that has been tuned up in power from 507 to 525hp. They are holding back on this motor anyway. I am sure they could get 600hp out of it even without forced induction.

yeah it's 6208cc, it's not been increased, it's the same engine as before!!

and this teaser is a waste of time. it's not as if we couldn't figure out what it was gonna look like before! nice wheels tho. they look better on the E than they do on the S Class and CL

i have great expectation to the new e63... but this seems to disappoint me a bit... it looks too much like C63 and really expensive for 90K euro... no matter what.. it looks much better than RS6.. that's for sure..

Couldn't agree with you more, but people who are actually buying this kind of cars prefer the Merc than the Jag, cause it's a Merc.

This car really doesn't interest most people in Europe, we only use them to get from the airport to the hotel, they are just too common to get excited about. I'd rather spend my hard earned money on a Jag XFR thanks.

Yes, please if you'll pay for that. Otherwise it is not possible. That car looks like a Helsinki or Hannover taxi indeed.

These tuned up examples of poshy public transportation will loose the rests of any class by loosing their common purpose.

A budget family car that tries hard to be sporty. It doesn't actually need a 6.2L engine, a 2L KIA or a 1.8L Toyota engine will be most suitable for this one.

Its actually bad news for those waiting for the AMG E Class or just standard E's. The styling is the biggest disappointment to those waiting to purchase the E Class. But it doesn't end there, they'll probably be terribly sorry for themselves after the purchase, comparing it with the M's and the RS's.
