BMW 5-Series GT Production Version Teased in BMW-TV Video

Video goes inside the cabin for a look at the 4 seats in this sedan/coupe and the panoramic glass roof

This video was produced by BMW TV and shows a production-ready version of the upcoming 5-series GT and an interview with Hans-Jürgen Branz, who head the development of the model.

Noticeable are the toned down stylistic flares, normal sized wheels, beige leather interior, standard mirrors and rounded dual exhaust tips as opposed to the flush trapezoidal tips on the concept.

The 5-series GT is an elevated sedan/coupe, what BMW has elected to call a PAS (Progressive Active Vehicle), meant to deliver on cabin atmospherics. At about the 2:25 mark, the video gives the viewer a feel for what it's like inside the car with its high seating positions and the panorama glass roof - a radiant sense of space and style that telegraphs luxury and sophistication and ultimate comfort.

With the release of this "unintentional" teaser video, it seems BMW is ready to pull the trigger on the launch of the 5-series GT. This car definitely looks like a finished product. But BMW will be waiting until the Frankfurt motor show in September to debut the car. In this economy, waiting a few months might just be a smart thing to do.

The 5-series GT is so large and posh that it runs the risk of cannibalizing 7-series sales. But BMW have a pretty good record on the launch of successful products, so one may have to defer to them on that. It is just as likely that the 5-series GT will be offering something more that what's already in the BMW product portfolio and that the competition, namely Mercedes-Benz and Audi, will suddenly find themselves in a rush to build a car to match it in the marketplace. They'll have their work cut out for them.

I've never seen a menu like that on any iDrive system - looks like a new version may debut on this Pacifica?

Can?t follow you... Where did you see the iDrive menu graphics in this video? The 5-series GT will use the same "new" system avaiable in nearly all BMW models since End of 2008...

So let?s see the response of Mercedes and Audi to this...Yes, because all that Merc, and specially Audi does is copying all that BMW does first (MMI command-iDrive, for exeample)! I didn't liked it very much in the beginning but now in a real video i think it?s very good!

no wonder they are concetrating on the front end in the video, it is the least ugly part of this car. the back and side view are really hideous, looks like a shrivelled X6 with a longer wheelbase. awful and useless model imho (like the R-class) and the designer in the video should have better joined bangle?s exit. how the feck can he be proud of such a design?!

Ha ha ha!!! You can tell from the negative remarks that the intoxicated fans from the rival Audi have started the BMW 'bash hour'. Dudes - this car is so posh inside that it makes the Audi A8 interior finishes look comical. No longer will car enthusiasts refer to the Audi cabin as the best in the class - it's game over. Audis 2015 target is suddenly moving further away and i think it's a stupid idea to come out barking such high pitched 'targets' as if your competition will forever sleep and not respond. If you've noticed lately BMW have started to wake up - just take a look at the changes like chasing Bangle. This car ROCKS! and it would be a great pleasure in driving a cruiser this big and posh on a long trip.

instead of this, BMW should have focused on the 8-series (CS concept) i mean seriously, they had the interior going...its clearly a 4 door coupe interior. Sad because if they did bring out the 8-series, i would have bought it.

I can't see this doing well. Hatchbacks don't have a strong following in the executive sector.

I guess they can keep bringing out these cars (e.g. 5 Series GT) because almost all of the parts are the same as the standard 5 Series and therefore keep the production costs to the minimum.
