Mercedes-Benz is known for not wasting any time introducing AMG versions of their cars. The new 2010 E-Class has been revealed and soon the new E63 AMG will be too. These spy photos show the car's rear end completely uncovered.

The rear lights are LEDs and the four tailpipes are shaped like ovals. Although not very visible we expect the front end to be characterised by a sporty grille with a honeycomb mash design. The wheels look suspiciously un-AMG so they may not be the final chosen design for a standard E63 AMG.

Details of the engine are not too detailed with Mercedes-Benz only willing to divulge the car's power figure of 386kW (525hp). Murmurs of "underpowered" were heard on many a fan's lip when this figure was released because it clearly falls short of the Audi RS6's 426kW (579hp). At this level of power the E63 AMG should only be able to face up to the new Jaguar XFR, not the RS6.

But Mercedes has declared that the power wars are over and it will now concentrate on fuel-efficiency rather than extreme performance. We can't help wonder if BMW and Audi will be compliant for their next weapons of choice in this segment.

Spy pictures have also revealed the E63 AMG Estate and both versions are expected to be officially unveiled at the same time during the 2009 Frankfurt International Motor Show in September.

While Audi makes great cars (I had a flawless, yet kind of boring 2006 A6), with incerdible build quality and engineering...I don't think in my lifetime that Audi will be seen as "above" Mercedes or BMW. I think their quality on many of their models is higher than Mercedes or BMW, but the Audi name (especially in the USA) is not esteemed or looked up to.

Please, what's all this badge vanity? An Audi by any other name would drive just as sweet.

front looks a bit like the new 2009 accord, which i happen to own, lol. but seriously i hope we're talking 560hp and up, cause lets face it the current e63 fell short of the e55 in torque and performance unless you were hitting triple digits and even then the m5 would reel it in

European horse power race... any thing to make the world a hotter place, while the sea level rises and we will all have to move to the mountains in 20 years from now....

"Way faster" is not exactly accurate. The 0-100 km/h times for both cars are exactly the same at 4.5. But, notice the large disparity in the maximum output of both vehicles; he RS6 has 580 PS, whereas the E63 has 514 PS. Reason for the same time? Weight. The RS6 weighs 200 kgs more than the E63. Because of that, they end having almost exactly the same power to weight ratio; E63 being 281 PS/tonne and the RS6 with 286. Small difference between the two, which has no overall effect.

The top speeds are also the same at 155 mph, but this isn;t reflective of the actual top speed. Without limiters, both cars would probably crack 200 mph. So, on paper the cars look pretty similar in the performance stats.

Out on the track, its probably a wholly different issue though. That weight in the Audi certainly won't help it.

In my opinion i think Audi will have a better name then bmw in the next 10 years, mercedes still has its class but thats not going to last, audi is on a rise, and just like their add said "progress is beautiful" ive worked with a lot of cars, every bmw audi and mercedes and ive owned a audi a6 a bmw 335i cabrio and an m3 and a merc cls, which were all great cars but wen you look at audi they always improve to a better car which is the right thing to do.

Jaguar's XFR is way hotter than this bland Mercedes, everything about the Jag is cool...

I seriously think that this 63, (if it only has 525bhp) is an interim car prior to the 'actual' twin turbo 63 due later, which is what Merc did in similar fashion to the 55' amgs when it first came out.

Imagine such a long engine sitting in front of the front axle in your RS6, hoping the next generation with v8turbo will compete this.
