considering the tax laws that used to be imposed on foreign cars in Japan, i don't think Toyota has any right to complain. they probably wouldn't be as successful now if it weren't for the unfair market that the Japanese government created for them.

Maybe this crisis means the end of world free trade, which had US as its main promoter. In UE countries that have such an incentive (Germany, Romania etc.) there is no discrimination between the UE manufactured cars and the cars produced overseas (US, Japan, Korea etc.). If the American car subsidiy is discriminatory, there will be for sure retaliation measures from the part of UE countries.

The japanese got it al wrong! The main idea is to protect the US economy! It is a protectionist measure! Of course it's discriminatory!! If they want to save their own industry, then their governement should do something about that too. Anyway, the americans are lucky to be able to pass such discriminatory acts. In Germany, they passed this kind of law to help theyr industry, but it is also very helpful for the Romanian auto industry. Dacia Logan and Sandero sales are booming!
