FIA Confirms Most Race Victories to Decide 2009 Champion

Points only used rivals are tied

Had the new points system been in place last year, Ferrari driver Felipe Massa would have been crowned drivers world champion instead of McLaren's Lewis Hamilton

So basically a driver can work really hard to win enough races then not bother for the next few races. I'm still waiting for the new rule "You can only win if you have a red car with a stallion on it" Apart from that though I would like to see Brawn GP clean up this season, I reckon it's going to be nice and open

So many "smart" people and so many idiotic rules. F1 is loosing its fans every day. FIA is really really dumb last few years.

We've already got 1 person posting a comment that this rule is ferrari - biased and I suspect many more are to come. If you're a BMW, Toyota, Honda fan and you're tired with Ferrari winning; I empathize. However most people that are constantly villainizing Ferrari are McLaren fans - yes the same company that had all of it's points stripped a year ago for corporate espionage. Or have you forgotten?

this is the stupidist thing i ever heard of there have been drivers that won chmpionships without even winning to many races in a season but by being consistent. this is almost as bad as the chase thing in nascar either way the most deserving driver will not be the champion.

I think this stupid rule effectively removes the competitiveness from the sport. The best quality of the point based system is that it keeps the top drivers competitive till the last race. It seems like they are making new rules just for the sake of making new rules. F1 is taking more than a few steps backward with this one in terms creating a more exciting season. I see this rule changing soon after this season ends.

hmmm - not surprised they brought this change, however the real problem started when they changed points from 10, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1 to 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. this change was to make it easier to dish out advertising revenue based on performance - not for the sport. we went from a system of big incentive to fight from 3rd - 1st to a system where a driver thinks it not worth the risk to challenge. the system that all the teams agreed to would have put this advantage back and really worked. also, what's wrong with 1 point for qualifying?? mix it up and have toyotas and brawns short fuelling for qualifying to get a point advantage - force overtaking too through mixed up field. i think that this year will show some very similar paced cars who will be on similar wins over the year anyway. wont be surprised if it comes down to points anyway.

Was looking forward to this year untill this. Whats going on here?? So if a driver wins few races he would bother for the next few races.
