MINI may be offering a John Cooper Works (JCW) version of its upcoming SUV.
The BMW Group brand has confirmed it is currently testing performance versions of the model at Nurburgring but won't say whether it will be a JCW edition.
JCW is MINI's official tuning partner and lends its name to performance versions of MINI models. The new MINI SUV, currently named the Cross, is due next year. A possible JCW edition may follow later in 2010 or in 2011.
The Cross is a 4-wheel drive MINI based on the same platform as the MINI hatch and the Clubman. It will closely resemble the Crossman concept MINI premiered at the Paris auto show last year, without the more extravagant design details. A standard Cross is also in the works, which could possibly get the JCW do-over too.
BMW is also looking to bring high-performance diesels to the MINI brand as well. But that may begin at the Cooper S level which is unlikely to need the JCW apparel.
