2009 Alpina D3 biturbo sedan

ALPINA is making an urgent point to compare their new D3 Bi-Turbo engine with what is on offer from the BMW factory. The ALPINA D3 Bi-Turbo sedan with manual transmission is priced at £29,950 on the road (OTR) compared to the less powerful standard 320d M Sport sedan which goes for £30,185. The D3 Bi-Turbo sedan with automatic transmission costs £31,585.
For the D3 Bi-Turbo, ALPINA chose to use the BMW four-cylinder engine from the 123d. Power has been hiked from 204hp (150kW) to 214hp (157kW). Torque goes up to 450Nm and peaks at a relatively low 2000rpm. The 0 - 62mph speed is dispatched in 6.9 seconds amazingly for both manual and automatic gearboxes. Top speed is rated at 152mph for the manual while the automatic goes the extra mile at 153mph.
Diesel buyers look for two vitally important traits. They are frugality at the pumps and torque pulling power. The latter has been clearly covered and ALPINA says the former comes to 52.3 mpg and 50.4 mpg for manual and automatic transmissions respectively. C02 emissions are quoted at 143 g/km for the manual and 150 g/km in automatic.
Potential owners need only worry about trim levels, exterior colour and transmission choices when they contact their nearest Alpina dealer for a D3 sedan because the cars are already fully specced.
In relation to the ALPINA D3 single turbo model of 2008 the new car is priced at £1,600 higher, gains 14 more ponies and 40 more Newton metres. Sounds like a big price hike, but when you consider that the factory 320d M Sport has 37hp and 100Nm of torque less than the D3 Bi-Turbo, it's more than justified.

The car is capable of 152 mph and 0-62 mph in 6.9 secs and yet the official fuel consumption and emission figures tell a very different story: 52.3 mpg (overall EU) and 143 g/km (manual gearbox version).
