a I-4 S5...? what a joke. Why not take advantage of that amazing weight reduction, fix the damn engine bay fitting problem, and throw in that awesome V-8! Could've been one of the meanest GT cars on the street, but no...

Well, in a few years, Audi will be competing against Lotus if they keep on like this.

Don't mind these news, these are just "investor pleasers"!

I'd rather see the Audi TT-RS's 340hp 2.5 liter TFSI inline-5 in the next S4 and S5.

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!! what will set them apart from a noisy annoying honda civic now?

Hmmmm... a turbocharged inline-5 like the one found in the TT-RS would set them apart. Its also a classic Audi setup, remember the Audi Quattro models of the 80's? ...incuding the Audi Quattro Rally Cars.

I absolutely LOVE the TT-RS, but why doesn't anybody seem to notice that the supposed "Audi inline-5" is actually not Audi, but VW? It's the same engine from the Bora/Jetta, except for the turbocharger of course. And it's not like the good old 1.8T, which was developed by Audi and then put in lots of VW, Seat and even Skodas, this 2.5l inline-5 was developed by VW and then used by Audi. It's sweet what they did by tuning it and putting it in the TT-RS, and it's definitely one of the best engines available, but it's not an Audi one. Give VW some credit.

loyo, Audi is part of the VW Group, it doesn't matter if they share the same basic engine. What sets the Audi TT-RS engine apart from the inline-5 of the USDM Jetta/Rabbit? The one in the TT-RS is turbocharged and produces 340hp. PS: The original naturally aspirated inline-5 engines found in the old Audis were also used by VW on the Mk2 Passat aka Quantum. But the turbocharged inline-5 engines found in the Quattro models was exclusive to Audi.

where has this info come from? i think it's highly unlikely that the A4 will be made of significant amounts of aluminium. it's too expensive and when you get a knock it'll cost an arm and a leg to fix. in cars like the TT and A8 it's not so much of a problem, but in a volume seller like the A4 i can't see it working... and i'm all for downsizing engines and things, but an I4 S4/5 would be a bit puny, no? sure there are advantages to be had in terms of cornering ability etc but these cars are about their grand touring ability as well and i think a small engine might destroy that a bit. even the I5 turbo in the TT-RS doesn't seem quite right for the S4, even if the power outputs are similar to the current 3.0 TFSI

what the f*** are they kidding me next thing u know the rs versions will only come as v6s i mean i love audi more then MB and BMW but if they keep doing crap like this ill become a beamer fan which i really hope that dont happen,,, i hope this news is only BS cuz if it happens ill never wanna own another audi...

Wrong caption for the article picture. That's an A5, not an S5 sketch. Audi has gone too far with this downsizing crap. I though the V6 for the S5 was bad enough but if downsizing is the solution does this mean we'll be seeing revolutionary 2 cylinder S-line cars from Audi in the future? This is ridiculous Audi.

you Americans are so boring with your V8's , why not a V12 or a W16 if you want something big ?

because those are expensive and don't necessarily add power to a car. I think a turbocharged 6L inline six in a car would be pretty sweet.

i think "U.D" was talking about the sound of the engine , not the price or how efficient it is.

this isnt 20 or 15 years ago, im sure if audi is going to put a 4 cyl its going to make enough power to make it better then the current ones, and with all that weight saving i dont doubt it, plus a 4 cyl will be also lighter then a v8 or 6. you guys forget that over the years cars have been getting bigger and heavier. and i think audi is doing a right thing. by doing this the car will aslo be more of a drivers car and more fun to drive. dont get me wrong though i love the v8 sound and the extra cylinders, but if they feel its the way to go then it is. and besides bmw is doing the same, the m5 is going back to a v8 instead of a v10.

before they do anything.. i think they are in urgent need of a new exterior designer..

because 2008 was such a bad year for Audi ? or why do you think they are in urgent need for a new designer ?

Exterior is wonderfull. But 4 cylinder, this is not Audi ! Imagine R8 with 6 cylinder engine :) I` think that this is not a true.
