German car news outlet Automobilwoche claims Audi has confirmed a 2010 release for the new Audi A8. This validates rumors about the A8 that have been around for a while.

An Audi spokesman told the Automobilwoche, "Our new flagship will come next year."

WCF previously reported that the Audi A8 will be released with two diesel and two petrol engines. The two engine displacements available will include a 3.0-liter and 4.2-liter V8. It does not appear that Audi will release a hybrid version of the car, unlike the BMW 7-Series and the Mercedes S-Class. However, Audi will likely improve A8 fuel consumption with a start-stop automatic. An Audi S8 could see the benefit of a 620 hp 5.0-liter V10 FSI.

It is also looking more likely that the Audi A8 will use the ASF II, the second generation of the company's Aluminum Space Frame. It uses an aluminum passenger cell, with steel and foam built in to reinforce vulnerable areas.

No word yet on the debut location of the new 2010 Audi A8. An introduction at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September seems to be a distinct possibility.

now, that's something very interesting... and I can't wait to see the new A8... I've always loved it: serious design, fit for a businessman... like an Armani suit

Great analogy ... IMHO the A8 is easily the best all round vehicle currently available in the large luxury saloon class ... best looks, best interior, best performance (S8) ... there's little doubt the next generation will build on that foundation.

well said, freeway. To bad the new European pedestrian safety laws will make sure it won't look so good.

well, scratchy... I'm confident that Audi engineers will know how to overcome this issue and I'm sure the final result will be as expected or even better :) especially after seeing the new A7 that fulfilled my expectations

it looks like an A5 from the side,...the current R8 looks exotic, something u dnt see everyday.... This one should be the Next generation A5 ......

You seem to not have realized that this is a four-door sedan, not a coupe as the A5 is.

i wouldn`t put so much emphasize on that sketch. the spy pics suggest it will be a smooth evolution rather than something really new and exciting. but that`s okay, cause it an A8 should look solid and classy. if u want something more exciting, the A7 is the way to go.

So it'll get the 3.0T found in the current S4/S5 and the standard 4.2L V8 but how I ask, are they going to squeaze 620 BHP out of their 5.2L V10? I can only assume this is going to be the TFSI version found in the RS6, but it seems odd that they would tune it to be more powerful in the S8 than the RS6. Or maybe that's a typo, maybe 520 HP not 620 HP, let's not forget the current S8 with the 5.2L V10 FSI only makes 450 HP.

Audi's are getting better looking!! Too bad its not that reliable......I don't really like the idea of me standing by my luxurious A8 by the freeway waiting for a tow truck. But look at the bright side, you gonna look good while waiting for the tow truck:)

All that said and done, pls gimme my A7 or A4!!

Great sketch. Too bad the real life production version will look nothing like it... It's always the case.

as always... it looks 95% the same as the current A8 and A6.... and A4 and A5 only with 4 doors..

i didn't know there are designers working at audi at all... i thought they just copy and paste the same thing over and over again and call it next generation...

Well this is mainly because of the single-frame grille, which IMO is overused already. It makes all their cars just look the same, even if they bother to change headlights, bumpers etc. I think they have to find something new now, or at least tweak it a little bit.

Well, Mercs and BMW all have the same grille, whats your point? Its their trademark, wouldnt make sense if they have a diff grille for different models...its like changing the logo every time a new model comes out

Isn't the appearance a little bit over? I mean it's not that serious.

If you read the article in reference to the engine displacement, it is written as though there's going to be a 3.0L V-8... lol

that's a typo....right?

March 13, 2009 6:40 AM
Yeah most likely a 3.0 V6. What are they thinking lol.

FINALLY!!!!! The only thing I love more than the A8 is the next-generation A8. Another piece to the perfect Audi puzzle.

i really don't know what is there to love about audi... all their models look so plain ... maybe the interior is good... but exterior... they just can't create the passionate feeling like other luxury brands...

it's supposed to look classy and elegant with a Teutonic influence. it does that perfectly. if you want wings and flames, look somewhere else.

I hope the next Audi A8 will be much better than

BMW 750 which has Provided 407 hp And many other

specifications : night vision which not available

in A8 :(

i am not looking for wings and flames... i just expect to have at least a reason to criticize on the new gen design like I did for S-class and 7-series.. no matter good or bad... but for this A8.... got nothing to say... coz its just the same shxt as before... i wouldn't notice it's a new gen too when i see it in person..

March 19, 2009 9:15 AM
if u talk about classy and elegant.. please look at the S-class... how can A8 be classy and elegant when it's 95% similar to A4..

I just came back from the Audi dealer...

This guy told me that the new S8 will have the looks of the new A7. (of course, sedan sport-like) And this render looks similar to what the A7 is...

Anyone knows were we can get any spy photos from the Audi S8 2011? Supposively we can place buy orders in March. And it is planned to be unveiled in September?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
