VW may use its fuel-sipping Bluemotion technology on sports models too.
In an interview with UK publication Evo at the Geneva auto show, Dr Ulrich Hackenburg, head of R&D at VW, said that Bluemotion versions of the Golf GTI or Scirocco sports variants could possibility see the streets within a few years.
Those models will likely carry a Bluemotion badge to distinguish them from their more purist sports bretheren. But Hackenburg says that VW, "...can make a connection between fun, performance and low consumption," implying that there won't be much sacrifice in terms of performance.
Hackenburg also says that eco-consciousness will go into even high performance VW sports models such as the already seen Scirocco R20T and the next-generation Golf R32. He strongly hinted that the next R32 would not come with a V6, as have its predecessors, but likely will be outfitted with a powered-up 4-banger to save on consumption and improve handling with the front end weight reduction.
