Arnold Schwarzenegger visits Audi booth at Geneva motor show

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was taken around Audi's stand at the 2009 Geneva International Motor Show by Audi AG Chairman Rupert Stadler. Accompanying them were Audi board member in charge of Marketing and Sales Peter Schwarzenbauer and German actor Ralf Moeller.

Were it not for Audi's American ambitions this story would not be very important. But Audi plans to be the biggest premium automaker in the world by 2015, a title currently held by BMW and previously in the hands of Mercedes-Benz. Mr Schwarzenegger being the governor of the world's 8th largest economy (if it were a country) is a powerful figure in American politics. His state of California has some of the most stringent C02 emissions requirements in the world and anyone who can impress him would stand a good chance of being allowed to sell their cars in Cali.

Of course were the golden state to introduce Audis in some of its fleets, say some of the police forces or even just VIP protection units it would give the German brand a good sales boost. Maybe even if the stars of California's most glamorous town Hollywood - some of whom are still friends with Schwarzenegger from his acting days - could be seen driving an Audi the brand would become more fashionable. Recall how popular the Toyota Prius became after a few Hollywood stars were seen driving it. So while it may look like an innocent little walkabout the outcome could really turn Audi's fortunes in the US.

The very question! Did they speak German! Can he even remember how? The brain is a funny thing, I've been living in Austria for 5 months and I have already a couple of times forgotten the English word for something when talking to people in English, for example the other day I couldn't for the life of me remember "recruitment agency".

@scratchy996:

They speak "Austrian" in Austria? okay, so people speak "American" in America, "Australian" in Australia and "South African" in South Africa.

Hey leave him alone, he's on vacation. I mean it's not like he has a bankrupt state to keep him busy.

Maybe he just wanted a casual pair of jeans to relax in. It helps when doing a whole tour.

He doesn't look like the Arnold I see in the movies. Sad that a Hummer wasn't on display at the show, or else he would have replaced the booth girl in that stand.

It looks like his head is going split open like the fat lady in Total Recall and then a little Maria Shriver head is going to pop out and start screaming.

There's a little mistake: the Sunshine State is Florida. California is the Golden State :)

You know what else is funny? Arnold is a bug guy, isn't he, but look both Stadler and Schwarzenbauer are exactly his height. And then when we see Moeller in a later photo, he dwarfs the other three! Giant Teutons galore! Btw, Schwarzenegger can speak german, youtube it. Very impressive.

Arnold is a legend, id have to say he had the best physic on the planet back in the day, hes done very well in his life time look at what he has achieved. hes the reason i got into bodybuilding and weight lifting. check out pumping iron and total rebuild. even the Mr Olympia champs now don't look as good as Arnold did.

arnold is a legend. most of his movies were a blast to watch and he has coolness factor, nobody probably will ever reach again. BUT that´s about it. his success as a bodybuilder is based on heavy steroids, he cheated on his wife several times and his views as a politician are more or less horrible.

His bodybuilding success was from hard work and good nutrition, just because he used steroids it didn't make it any easier in fact its harder work, also its hardly an advantage when every bodybuilder he competed against was using them as well. most pro athletes use it if they can get away with it. True he might of had flings with other women but hey no ones perfect are they, even old president Clinton had a play but who can say hes a bad man! and his politics are right in his mind just like every human will argue for what he or she thinks is right in their model of the world. Do you honestly think Hitler thought what he did was wrong!
