Engineering firm and concept car builder EDAG has officially unveiled their brand new Light Car concept at the Geneva Motor Show. A technological show piece for a greener future, the Light Car Concept features the use of advanced lightweight materials and an electric powertrain.
One of the main technological innovations that the EDAG features is the use of lightweight basaltic fiber. Supplied by ASA.TEC, the new basaltic fiber is 100% recyclable and less costly than traditional materials such as carbon fiber and aluminum.
Power comes from an electric drive system that is located in the wheels and is connected to a lithium-ion battery pack that enables the car to travel up to 150 kilometers (93 miles). Thanks to the system's compact design, it can fit into small cars such as the EDAG Light Car Concept.
Other innovations in the Light Car Concept include a customizable interior adaptable to suit the driver unique tastes, among the things that can be adjusted is a climate control system which can be placed wherever the driver desires. Elsewhere there is plenty of LED lighting and a tailgate that can be used to project messages to people driving behind the concept.
