After numerous teasers and several leaks, Alfa Romeo has officially unveiled their new MiTo GTA Concept at the Geneva Motor Show.
The car's exterior styling is decidedly aggressive as the new concept features large air intakes with mesh inserts, a front lower lip spoiler, bulging wheel wells, a massive rear diffuser, large center mounted rear exhaust tips, and turbine-design wheels in a matte finish.
Power comes from a new turbocharged 240 bhp 1.8-liter engine that features direct injection and dual variable valve timing. Designed by Fiat's Powertrain Technologies group, the new engine takes advantage of lessons learned from the company's production of Twin Spark and Alfa V6 engines.
Since the "A" in GTA stands for Alleggerito (reduced weight in Italian), the new MiTo concept features the use of carbon-fiber for the tailgate spoiler as well as roof and mirror fairings. Further weight reductions come from the use of aluminum in the braking system, suspension, and some parts of the chassis. Other performance changes include an aerodynamic underbody, a 20mm reduction in ride height, and an active rear suspension.
