Hello :) No you are not seeing things :) unfortunately this is the worst looking Benz ever. I don't know how they intend to compete with BMW 5 and the Audi A6 ?! As it seems maybe this model is for the US market?! And this has been written by a man who usually likes Mercs - me :) why my attitude is chaneged ???? Don't understand me wrong - the interior is ok, looks even nice, but the exterior is .... it looks like a..., bad front, bad back :( try harder Mercedes, we want nicer cars!

can you say Hyundai? LOL

But the interior is so nice. And that's the place where you are when driving it, you're not outside. So a lot of people won't care about the looks, as they're not the people that would look at it from outside. If someone likes this car, it's interior, quality and general feeling he is going to buy it. The end.

are u serious dude...what world are u on and what kind of person prefers the interior than exterior?

Why, housejunkie, do you drive your car from the outside? Or more likely you can't even drive yet and can only appreciate cars from the outside?

You must be joking! The interior is nice??? what, are you from th past? If you want to see nice interiors, look at the Z4, look at the X5, look at the new 7. That's nice interiors. Not full of cheap black plastics and more different types of hard plastics that look like they will melt under the sun! I'm about to vomit anytime now

oh sorry bmw fan boy. I might surprise you when I say that I was in BMW showroom and have seen new 7-series interior too. It was great also, high quality feel and very modern at the same time, really great. E-class interior doesn't look modern but it is elegant and that suits merc brand very well, just like 7-series interior suits bmw great. (3 series was really crap and very cheaply made inside, not even close to the lexus interior)

This car is ugly, on the inside and the outside. The sad part is that it's gonna sell regardless because some people will buy anything with a three pointed star on it.

I couldn't have said it better ... no doubt it has some ground breaking technology hidden under that low class/no class exterior ... come on MB stop pumping out ugly designs for senior citizens ... you can do much much better than this.

This thing is gonna be of the chain, just like the outgoing E-Class. All these fools that commented negatively probably supe up 80's Honda's and have no idea 'bout real performance - like the entire Mercedes-Benz line up. All these fools should go to a MB dealership and drive a '10 E-Class, then come back to this site and apologize for making dumb ass remarks. (Well...actually...I like dumb ass remarks... hmmm...I'm torn.)

You talk big. but do you know enough about cars to support your statements? and how i drive a 80's suped up honda? i drive a hummer h3. and my dad has the outgoing e class merc. and that is a brilliant car. no one has mentioned anything about the performance or specs. me and others who are least bit sane have been saying the styling has gone downhill. just like the subaru impreza. they had a really great car. but they decided.hmm i know. today i want to ruin my flagship car! so the performance will probably be good. great economy for sure. it still looks like a hyundai no questions asked

I repeat...go drive one, then come back here and say that again. I have seen this in action and the E-coupe. I like the E-coupe design better, but for practicality in a mid range lux car, this is nice! BTW, I think it looks more like an Accord than a Hyundai. Or did the Koreans and Japanese see the plans for the E and speed their version to market? Just speculating on a hypothesis. Interior design FTW for Mercedes over any asian competitor. I even like the interior better than BMW and Audi competitors, but that is just my personal thing.

Oh yeah, another thing, I'm not crazy about the 4 spoke steering wheel. 3 or 2 spoke for me.

Whts wrng w/ you people? It not the BEST looking Benz, but it's not ugly. Oh well, you are the people who prbly can't afford a Benz anyweigh, if so you would understand people don't buy Benz's for the weigh they look, but because NOTHING drives like a Mercedes.

Apart from the rear lights, I think this car looks good. Good, not great, but definitely good. The more I see it, the more the design grows on me. What I do like is the return to the chunky sort of design and the sense of solid build from Mercedes of old. As for it looking a lot like a Hyundai, I've heard that a lot and it's definitely in the rear lights, I admit, they are totally "wrong". Would I buy one? If I had money, yes, I'd buy one in Black. Would I choose it over a C Class or S Class? No. At least those are more cohesively designed. Good luck Mercedes, lets see how long it takes for the "face lift" to come!

the front is not that bad but the rear is so ugly! I prefer the e-coupe/looks 10x better ;)

I'm pretty much okay with the front but the rear has no class. Seriously, it looks cheap.

Not impressed, especially the side on view of the rear quarter..it looks like its from another car..very disappointed MB has come up with this, and the interior is way too fussy. Anyway, can someone help with this question, as a consequence I am about to put in an order for a current series S350, actually an 08 model demonstrator, the dealer is telling me there is no update until at least 2011, though I am sure from info on this site there is to be a face lift soon? I am in Australia so not sure what is correct here..I would hate to order this car for a facelifted model to be released within months. appreciate any info here.
