Maserati has unveiled their new GranTurismo S Automatic coupe at this year's Geneva Motor Show. Designed to offer unparalleled performance in an everyday package, the new model delivers high-speed thrills with the enhanced comfort of an automatic transmission.
The idea behind the new coupe comes from the reality that not everyone who can afford a GranTurismo S wants to deal with its complicated electro-actuated gearbox. Until now, those who loved the GT's style but hated the S' gearbox had to settle for the "entry-level" GranTurismo with its 4.2-liter V8 engine that cranks out 405 hp. Maserati was quick to realize that there is a sizable share of the market that demands an automatic transmission in their high performance vehicles, so they took the 4.7-liter V8 engine from a GranTurismo S, which produces 440 hp and 490Nm of torque, and attached it to a six-speed ZF automatic gearbox in order to create the new GranTurismo S Automatic.
Among the many differences between the GranTurismo S Automatic and the standard GranTurismo is revised Skyhook suspension system that features continuously adjustable dampers, sportier side sills, and new 20" wheels with Trident design. Interior changes are minor but include standard Bluetooth connectivity and newly optional iPod integration.
