I have to say I am not at all surprised by the styling - Typical VW smart understated but ultimately a little boring and lacking in flair. No doubt it will be a good car but I would be unlikely to choose it in this class.
In styling terms you simply cannot compare this to the absolutely fabulous Ford Fiesta. They are worlds apart.

i think it's great! i really do... it has a solid design, and isn't like those fiestas that all look like space-ships! or the peugeot 207 with that big "mouth"... and it's a VW! it's better built, has better engines (exception to the 1.4 tdi, that thank god won't fit this car!)...i would rather buy this than any other car

Much better design than the Golf VI. They should have design the Golf this way: I've seen a parked 5-doors from behind the other day, it looked as dull as a Golf Plus.

This video sucks. It's badly edited. Seeing the car go up and down the same places from far away.
Anyway, the car looks good just looks too much like the Golf.

Wow! It looks solid, robust, purposeful, and Teutonic. It reminds me of the chunky goodness of the '99-'05 Golf/Jetta. I actually applauded when I saw the styling of the tailgate and rear quarters. No goofy curves, needless swoops, or spaceship lights. After-marketers and tuners will make this excellently-perportioned and (presumably) well-engineered design their next big thing. If Chevy can sell Aveos in the USA, then VW should be able to sell twice as many Polos. Nice job, VW.

Looks absoueletly fantastic IMO, couldnt be any better. Its not only the best looking VW for a while, its also the best looking car in its class. Engine technologies also get top marks, pretty sweet range and nice to see the long rumored 1.6 TDI and 1.2 TSI. Im surprised it weighs less than the old model as looks a lot more grown up and upmarket. Hopefully VW will put the 1.4 TSI in this car later on, a 180PS 1.4 TSI GTI would be a true hot little hatch, much like the latest Ibiza Cupra R. Its a shame the latest Golf wasn't designed so well, as it looks rather bland compared to this.

Hmmm, I think VW have a winner here. Looks likes a smaller Golf as said. And the interior is stunning, can see the Audi influence.
And to think we thought the features of the new Fiesta were innovative for this segment.

One problem with the interior that I notice: why the heck the climate control is lit in blue, while the FIS and the NAV are far better white-on-black schemed. It looks like the climate control was added last minute, and totally out of place. I recon the same thing on the MK6 Golf. Besides of that, I really love this car.

Its a small family type car for goodness sake,what do the critics expect, a minature horny looking Lambo,Maser,Fazazz ? Get off the grass, you lot, because you are obviously not buyers anyway. Stick your your copycat Jappas or whatever floats your boat or become car designers and show us how clever you are !!

They need to bring this car over to the states, the Golf/Rabbit had gotten way too expensive and its a good contender against the likes of the Scions and Fits!
