The Geneva International Motor Show next week promises to showcase a lot more eco-cars than before. One of the exhibitors in this segment will be Austrian auto manufacturer Magna Steyr. They will be presenting the Mila EV Concept which is a compact car powered by a lithium-ion battery that charges in 2.5 hours. The Mila EV produces 67hp (49kW) through its motor and has a range of 150km (93 miles).
As sweet as this all sounds Magna says it has no intention of putting the car into production. Instead it hopes to find customers for some of the Mila EV's components. One of these customers is confirmed to be Ford which announced a partnership deal with Magna at the 2009 Detroit Motor Show to jointly produce a zero-emissions electric car for a 2011 introduction.
Many of the Magna-Ford car's powertrain components will be developed and built by Magna. Such components include the motor, transmission, battery pack and control units. Magna Steyr is owned by Canadian company Magna International.
