Fisker is now taking orders for the Karma S. The convertible Karma first came into the public eye at the 2009 Detroit Motor Show as a concept car. It seems Fisker got the desired media and public response and moved fast to approve it for production.

Deposits for the Karma S will be US$25,000 which is five times more than deposits required for the Karma four-door plugin hybrid sedan. Fisker public relations chief Russel Datz told eGMCarTech.com that pricing for the Karma S has not been fixed yet, and that the first 250 units are to be "specially configured." No clarity on this was received but it's understood that these would be designated as first-run cars and possibly be numbered.

The Karma S sits four people and features a retractable hard top. It has a plugin hybrid powertrain called Q-DRIVE which has been developed by Quantum Technologies. The system allows for 50 emission-free miles on one charge and up to 430 miles (692km) from its two electric motors that produce 403hp (296kW) combined.

First deliveries are expected to take place at the end of 2011.

It produces 403hp from two electric motors combined. The phrase has been edited.

@jandrews90: I think it meant to total 403 hp. This car is so sick. If this is the direction in which the industry as whole is headed, then this is absolutely fantastic.
