Bugatti Veyron - gold

Bugatti Centenaire will celebrate 100 years since Ettore Bugatti founded the legendary automaker that bears his name

Bugatti is a super brand, an automotive legend, and even if the company has laid dormant from time to time over the last 100 years, it has to celebrate its centennial in a way that lives up to its history and image.

And it's not going to be yet another special edition Veyron. In fact, the car that Bugatti is rumored to be debuting at Geneva next week will carry the name of the event it is meant to mark. According to Autoblog, the car will be named the Centenaire and, although it may be based on the Veyron, it will distinguish itself from Bugatti's standard Veyron 16.4.

How exactly will it do that? By uprating the 8.0 liter, 16 cylinder (W16) quad-turbo Bugatti engine to a Jack Nicholson-in-the-Shining-level of crazy - a maniacal 1350 hp. (The 'standard' Veyron comes with a mere 1001 hp and 1250 Nm of torque. Don't ask how you get to measure that extra horse over the 1000 mark. Just don't.)

Top speed on the Centenaire beats out the discount, pedestrian showroom version of the Veyron 420 km/h (261 mph) to 407 km/h (255 mph).

None of this has been confirmed, of course. But you have to expect VW Group would want to make as much hay as possible out of their ultra-luxury brand's birthday. We'll see what that is exactly next week.

nah, that's too slow for me. If this is true, this car is finally making the numbers it should be making... And it can still make tons more... the question is, do you need it? Depends on what u want to achieve.

that would put the worlds fastest production car titles back in buggati's hands, as well as snatch the world's most POWERFUL emission-legal car, that buggati never held, SSC Aero were the first to apply for that one with their 1046hp, that would put buggati exactly where it belongs :)

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make it!!

SCC Aero - pwnd! Thats what it deserves.

The fact that Bugatti is releasing these "special" edition cars means that they ARE working on a new car...

Actually no, it means just they opposite. The fact that they are releasing these special edition cars means that they are too lazy to design a new car. In fact, it means they are working on the very car that is being discussed right here: this tuned up, front-runner, band-wagon sports car.

It's not that they are too lazy. It's doubtful the current Veyron will EVER be profitable for VW, but the only way they can hope to get the stupendous development budget back is by keeping this model in production as long as possible - with the odd special edition. Developing a new Veyron (unless its heavily based on the current one) would be a VERY irresponsible use of VW's shareholders' funds in the current economic environment.

1) The 10 people that buy this car will never go that fast. In fact, the cars will barely be driven. It's a collector's item.

2) You better have access to Nardo or the Salt Flats to go full throttle on this thing. To get to 260 you probably need a good 10-20mile stretch of good pavement.

3) VW better not get any bailout money

VW will loss millions on the car again. Last time they lost over 50 million pounds just cos the wanted to get thefastest road legal car. STUPID with inn 2 years no VW!!! Bet U :(
