I remember how they said some years ago "we're not going to make a cayenne diesel ever as it doesnt fit our brand at all, we are only going to make cayenne hybrid", well I've visited their website today and found a diesel there, what a huge surprise from Porsche... it's so sad, so sad

Porsche actually had a whole policy against diesel, saying that its responsiveness and other drawbacks make it unusable for any car with a Porsche badge, one could arge that this isn't a true Porsche in that case

The engine in the photographs is clearly the 3.6L VR6 not the 3.0T FSI.

to little to late... GM beat Porsche to this niche years before they will ever sell one... or maybe it's a good plan with GM dropping all their full sized suv's.

The only race that GM will beat Porsche in is who can go bankrupt first.

Another game-changing hybrid. Now that manufacturers have figured out how to package in high-power electric motors we will be seeing many more things like this. I love it. Bring on the hybrid tech! I can't wait till KERS gets wrapped in production clothes too!

Here is a novel idea: How about selling a hybrid SUV without "HYBRID" written in great big letters along the length of the vehicle? Or would they not sell as many because the only real concern Cayenne drivers have is their image? Maybe it is too hard for them to accept that nobody likes them. After all, the Cayenne is not a real Porsche; furthermore, this hybrid is not green. And can someone tell me why they chose to use a supercharged V6 if their goal was to increase fuel economy? When vehicles like this are marketed as "green," it undermines the entire point of the Green Revolution. (Mind you, marketing it as what it is -- a way for Porsche to lower its fleet fuel economy figures -- probably wouldn't work.) Still, this sort of crap bothers me. While it is still to be seen, I feel that the day "hybrid" became synonymous with "green" is the day the Green Revolution failed.

Easy, the Supercharged V6 is the most efficient engine in the VW/Audi portfolio that meets all the criteria. Its a direct "bolt in", meaning it will be accepted by the Cayenne chassis with minimum extra engineering costs (costs are already high from years of R&D on the hybrid propulsion system). Also, this is still a Porsche. So, even while being more efficient (the key word being "more"), the package must still be entertaining. And, 26mpg ain't bad for this pig of an SUV. The Touareg/Cayenne/Q7 are heavy because they're very over-engineered.
