WOW, the XK is considerably overpriced; like 20K overpriced... Really! I'm excited to see the 5.0L's though. Can't wait till they're in Range Rover's.

So why should an 385hp XK convertible cost $69,000 when a less powerful 360hp 650i costs $85,300 and ? Why should a 510hp XKR convertible cost $82,000 when an M6 convertible with 500hp costs $107,900? The point is strengthened by an SL550 costing $98,500 and an SL63 V8 AMG costing $135,000. Go figure...

And what happened to the XJ line? Are they going to put the 5.0 engine on it too??

Yeah, all those vehicles are XK competition. But, premium pricing does not make a vehicle premium! Take Cadillacs XLR as example. The XK is decent in its own right, but when you compare it to its price matched competition it is glaringly obvious the materials are sub-par. Plastics are inferior in every way. Jag used a quality leather supplier, but the stitching and creasing are flawed in there coarse approach. Haptic feedback from ALL switches is bottom class (Ford parts-bin). "Piano Black" trim is cool if the surface stain is applied to a wooden veneer. Shiny black plastic titled "Piano Black" is not a luxury item and has no excuse being used so heavily around the infotainment display. These are just basic problems. I haven't even gotten into the driving experience, or how dated that aforementioned infotainment package is. Its not bad transportation by any means, just don't start comparing it to it's competition. My 80K would go to Munich or Stuttgart, and I'd get my money's worth!

Amen to that, other than the engine, and some slightly fancier interior and exterior styling the XF is a Mondeo in my eyes, not worth the $. Also the difference for the 650 is that in 5 years it will still be there and have a decent re-sale value, the jag goes down 20,000$ in the first day. I don't think i have to actually mention the other differences between the actual 2 cars. One is a BMW another is the bastardization by americans of a true british motoring icon. I would say that the XF is worth 40,000$ and the R 55ish(same area as CTS-V). Jags had an old world charm and unique styling, all that died when ford stepped in and tried to modernize, it's like they took the mona lisa, scanned it and added some photoshop effects to the point its no longer recognizable and then try to say it's the mona lisa. There is one jag i would buy, a 2003 XJ-R, and thats because i can get the anniversary ed. for 25k with under 20,000km on it. And id buy it just for its old school looks and feel. Sometimes its nice to break away from the modern styling of stainless steel and glass with black trim. But not for that price.

Great prices, awesome motors. benz_man & Radmeister etc are talking out of their arses, Jag use the same plastic supplier as VW & Audi, they use higher quality leather & wood than Bentley(i know first hand, my family work for Bentley btw), the technology under the hood is equal and sometimes slightly better than that of there German rivals. Most people are fooled by the expensive advertising campaigns which the German brands show on tv, not to mention the back hand deals to cars magazines and tv shows etc...

Suppliers offer different price points for the same products. Mercedes used its usual supplier list for many Chrysler interiors. Did that make them any better? I'm lucky enough to be in the position to drive these cars every day. Just go drive an XK and 650 back to back. The proof is in the pudding...

I've been in the new 2010 XKR just recently, and it's way better than a BMW, Porsche & Mercedes, Jag have just done a massive refurb of the XK series, they have updated the whole car, and the new materials are excellent. It's not just the materials that make a car aswell, it's the styling and driving experience which should be the main attractions...

We obviously have differing opinions on what "good" materials are, and that's cool. But, having been in and out of dozens of XKs over the last two years I can tell from the single interior shot provided that nothing has changed significantly. And yes, styling and driving experience are large factors in a purchasing decision, but don't be fooled. An owner's time is spent IN the car, not looking at it. What good is a beautiful exterior design if the place where you spend all your time at is questionable?

Jaguar's XF is well regarded as having one of the finest interiors of any motor in it's class, the only competitor which gets close is Audi's A6, but the A6 is a boring car, the 5 series and E-Class don't feel special enough in comparison to the beautiful XF...

I agree, but I'm not talking about the XF here. I'm talking about the XK. I've made no negative comments regarding the XF. The XF uses Fords current generation of interior materials (which pale in comparison to the next gen 5 and E-class). The XK is carrying over old-school Ford materials and it shows. Most wouldn't even notice unless they compared the XK directly to its competition. I get paid to analyze cars all day long. I can't help but notice...

I'm staggered by the comments on the quality of materials in BMW 6 Series, vs SL, vs XK. I just cross compared all thre and the XK is STREETS ahead in terms of material quality. Both the Beemer and the Benz have mis-matched plastics, and the quality is more egg-carton than Faberge Egg. Poke around under the seats and under the glove box and you will find far cheaper stuff in the Beemer and the Benz. Sadly these days the Germans are faking it. Oh, and the Beemer looks like Shrek taking a dump.

Hey benz_man, have you been in a 2010 XKR? I just bought one and it wasn't because I can't afford a German box.
