Here's some good news for Corvette fans. Chevrolet and Corvette Racing have announced a road version of their American LeMans C6R - the 2009 Corvette GT1 Championship Editions.

Notice the plural of "Editions" because this is actually a performance package that you can choose, at a price of 7,840 US dollars, for 3 separate Corvette models - the Coupe 4LT, Convertible 4LT or the Z06 3LZ.

The 4LT Coupe or Convertible get the Z51 performance package and an NPP Performance Exhaust.

All models get the Corvette Racing "Jake" graphics do up, ZR1-style chrome wheels and spoiler, customer leather Ebony Interior with yellow stitching, engine cover with carbon pattern and yellow Corvette lettering, and GT1 embroidered leather seats along with GT1 tags on the center console and instrument panel.

Basically, much of the appeal seems to be that this car is dressed up for the track but you can take it on the road.

But given that GM just shut down its performance division, HPVO, one has to take it as positive news that GM hasn't let itself go completely and is still dressing up the Corvette for a glitzy night on the town.

Prices (in US dollars) are: Coupe 4LT ($65,310), Convertible 4LT ($71,815), and Z06 3LZ ($86,385).

world car news must be running low on news, if they are running with this story. Another sticker vette that's noth worth our attention. Time to pack your bags cause GM you don't deserve the bail out money

It's more relevant then a slightly modified g wagon. After all, it is a car and this is world CAR fans. Also, this special edition corvette is a good idea for gm, it's a way to increase profits without having to spend any more.

Joe they already had this package available, just not all combined into one option with it's own name, each was a separate option you could select at the dealer. Wow rims, an exhaust, fake carbon fibre engine cover, and a sticker, woohooo the official ricer vette now takes only 1 checkmark on the order sheet instead of 4 separate ones. They must have put the chrome wheels on there to signal the change they promised congress, and to blind Obama with some bling bling from the fact its still the same car that hasn't sold well for the past 4 years.

hasn't sold well? I guess amg's, the m series, and rs series must be doing even worse then... after all... more corvettes are sold then any of those groups of cars... and its only 1 model.
